Iraq Refugees

Canada has announced that they will increase the number of refugees from Iraq that they take in this year. They aren't taking more refugees in total, just allocating a larger number of the places to people from Iraq.

Sounds like a political statement to me.

I believe Palestine has the largest number of refugees. I don't recall increasing any mandates in their favour. I'm not against taking in Iraq refugees... just wondering what the hoopla is about. They didn't meet their limits on last years mandate. It's, on the surface, just a statement. Perhaps they enjoy thinking that we have some effect on our neighbours. Perhaps they see the end of the Iraq war coming and are trying to create some kind of martyr image in advance.
