Pot Smoking Neighbours

Post by koan »

The guys across the hall seem to have trouble remembering to go on their balcony for the activity and end up stinking up the whole hallway. They face the back lot, not the street, so there's no reason for them not to use the patio. I've thought about asking them to be aware of how bad it leaks into the rest of the building but don't know if that will create animosity or not.

The building manager is aware of it. Should I just pressure her to do something about it? Should I ignore it? What would you do?

Is it illegal or a nonsmoking apartment building?

I definitely would get the manager involved. When you are living in an apartment/condo and you have neighbours that are inconsiderate morons, it is just better to get someone with authority to deal with it. Trust me, I had 2 1/2 years of these idiots above me, and they finally moved out. Good luck.

rj had a good idea. As they are doing the MJ, they may not be aware how far the smell is permeating. They should be careful about that, and probably the best thing is to go outside when they are smoking 'MarriJuarna', where the smoke will dissipate faster. Certainly within a building, it could raise a question or two from a visiting law man !! It reminds me of when we were outside in our patio, and having eaten our barbeque, we stoked up the BBQ stove with some wood and threw a handful of Eucalyptus leaves on to make it smell nice. About 20 minutes later, a neighbour called out that he would bring round some lager and do a swap with us (for what we were smoking :wah:) we just could not persuade him that it was eucalyptus leaves burning on the fire (they don't smell anything like ganja !). :wah: :lips:

I totally agree with you Jim, alcohol is a far more anti-social commodity when abused. Most young people these days seem to be hell-bent on getting blathered and then picking fights with others, mostly innocent passers by, and this is not just the fellas being nasty either! :-5:rolleyes:

Ahhh, the devil's lettuce.

I'd go over and introduce myself. Blazin' a fattie is the best way to get to know people. If it just isn't your cup of tea (pun intended) then just leave a friendly note alerting them that a buzz (i just can't stop myself) is wafting (ha!) around the building about the aroma. They'll appreciate the heads up.

you lot crack me up. :D

In BC they don't charge people with smoking pot, it's illegal but they'll only charge people who are selling it. I put a door sweep on my front door so the smell doesn't come into my place. I wouldn't mind a faint scent of it in the hall either but it reeks like skunk 4 days out of 7.

The main concern is that my daughter spends time here. Then again, my daughter spends time here so I'm not keen to have neighbours that hate me. Six of one, half a dozen of another... if you know what I mean.

So it IS the smell! Nobody smokes tobacco in your building? Actually, I can believe that. The last apartment we lived in, I'm sure there were cigarette smokers but I never smelled it. But I always knew when the mom downstairs left the teenager alone at home. Apparently we didn't share ventilation, but when he lit up a blunt on the patio the smoke always came in my open windows. :yh_sick

In BC they wouldn't be charged for smoking pot. It overburdened the courts so they stopped charging people. I'd rather it's pot than coke or heroin... that part doesn't bother me. I considered mentioning it myself because I just want them to be aware that it's coming out into the hallway, I don't care if they're getting high every day I just don't like smelling skunk when I get home from work.

I wouldn't notice the smell of cigarettes as I smoke. I smoke on the balcony though.

I remember, last summer, my boss used to go into the back room of the workshop to smoke up and he'd turn the fan on. He didn't realise that the fan blew the skunk scent all over the block. :wah:

I could write a note that says "See how this note slips under your door? So does the smell of pot slip out."

Hey, I'm glad to smell that you guys have some fun over there in your apartment. The sad thing is I have put on 5 pounds in the last couple of weeks from getting the munchies after walking in the hallway. Have a great day I am heading to the store for cup cakes, want any?:wah:
