Oldies But Goodies

I like to DVR some films that I haven't seen for years -- just to see if they hold up well with time.

"The Deer Hunter" certainly did. It still packed a punch 29 years after I first viewed it.

I also rewatched "Boogie Nights", a film about the porn industry. I loved it all over again.

My next flick will be "Awakenings" with Robert DeNiro and Robin Williams. :guitarist

I can't tell you how many times I have watched that silly movie "fast times at ridgemont high" Jr minks loves it too.

I saw that one in the theatre 'way back when.

One of the few Robin Williams performances (Moscow On The Hudson is another) that didn't make me want to spew.

Well, if you took out Hamlet and added Notorious (original Hitchcock version); The Night of the Hunter (original Mitchum version) and perhaps Black Narcissus; The Searchers and Bring Up Baby (plus a good few more!) then we are almost on the same wavelength - what good taste you have!!:)

I could sit here all day typing all the old classics that we all loved so much.........but we all know those films I would mention so instead Im going to tell you about a film I saw about 32 years ago..........goodness I just realise how many years it actually was, where the hell do the years go?It was a film called The Other Side of Midnight.I found it such a good film I cant tell you.Basically it was all about revenge but the outcome of it was such a surprise.The sad thing was when I saw it on the tele some years later they left a big chunk of it out and spoilt the plot big time.I have to say it is a womans film though.............now Im going to get depressed......32 years ah

Carolly, I remember the film and the book! Wasn't it written by Sidney Sheldon? I remember and actor named John Beck, I think, who was in it.

I recall the book more clearly. I was about 12 years old when it came out, and boy did I think it was pretty racy!! :sneaky:

YOU GOT IT!!!!Thats the one babe lol........it actually was about a young girl who gets pregnant by an RAF guy and does the dirty on her.She gets rid of the baby and goes on to become a top model and marrys a really rich guy.She also traces down the RAF fellow and "traps" him into working for her and he dont remember who she is.............at first...........and then oh boy the fun begins lol.The ending was such a surprise though...........ohhhhh it was a good film lol.

On the opposite side of the coin, have you ever rewatched a film that you loved and been SO disappointed to find that it was nothing like you remembered?

When we were quite young, my late sister and I used to watch "Old Mother Riley" films and we used to get quite silly and dizzy with laughter. After she died recently, I rented one on video but I have never been so bored in all my life, it was embarrasing to watch, how could we have ever found them fun?

How very true.........mind you its like when we buy a dress or something and think its the best thing since sliced bread and 6 months later look at it and think...........was I drunk when I bought that???:wah::wah:;)

The Deer Hunter came out 29 years ago ? Wow ! I remember walking out of the theatre being kind of numb either because Id smoked a joint before the movie or because it was such an intense film for its time.

The very first time you see "Jaws" and "The French Connection" and "Dirty Harry", you are riveted. Same thing with "The Deer Hunter" as you all mentioned.

I remember seeing Jaws in 1975 and it was that music that had everyone in the theatre just sitting on the edge of their seats. Scared the crap out of me and everybody. The New Jersey shore merchants were not very happy with that film, I remember. But shark bracelets were big that summer.

One of my favorite oldies is "Captains Couragous" with Spencer Tracy, I also like all the swashbuckling Errol Flynn movies yeah even Robin Hood. I know I know..I can't help myself.:wah:

My latest DVR'ed movie is "American History X" with Edward Norton.

I remember it as a powerful flick with excellent acting. I hope I feel the same way again.

but it has been at least 3 or 4 years since i have gone to the movies. Nothing worth paying $$ to see theses days.
