Across The Universe

Post by koan »

I just saw this a couple of nights ago. It's wacky and imperfect. It's big budget and it's a musical. It's the Beatles songs strung closely together in an attempt to create a story. They jump around a bit, indicating that scenes were cut out because it ran too long. Some of the sound editing seems poorly done so that they don't really seem to be singing a few of the songs themselves. Bono Vox looks like himself but doesn't sound like himself. Eddie Izzard sounds unmistakeably like himself but looks nothing like himself. Two of the main characters are so hard to integrate (apparently) into the story that one of them has to climb through an apartment window to join the group. :wah:

Nevertheless, I absolutely loved this film, flaws and all. I want to buy it so I can watch it over and over.

The "I want to Hold your Hand" segment was so beautiful and haunting to me.:)

I keep hearing good things about this film but it's a musical. It's the Beatles

is enough to keep me from watching it.

Im not 100% anti musical, I loved Moulin Rouge but if I hear Yesterday one more time Im hurling.

Interestingly, they didn't use Yesterday in the film... that I recall.

You should watch it just to see Izzard as Mr. Kite :-6

I've been wanting to see this one. Will have to ask my niece to borrow her's. She's a big Beatles fan and bought the movie the day it came out.

It's on PayPer View today, so I have it recording. Going to go watch it as soon as I finish typing up my auctions. :D
