Starbucks to pay $100 million in tips
Good for the employees, they should be allowed to keep the tips for themselves! And Starbucks should pay their supervisors better.

SAN DIEGO - A Superior Court judge on Thursday ordered Starbucks to pay its California baristas more than $100 million in back tips that the coffee chain paid to shift supervisors.
Saying baristas were entitled to $86 million in back tips plus interest, San Diego Superior Court Judge Patricia Cowett also issued an injunction preventing Starbucks’ shift supervisors from sharing in future tips.
Cowett said the practice was a violation of a state law prohibiting managers and supervisors from sharing in employee tips.

Quite true, all tips are worked for by the employees and shouldn't be took away in any shape or form. :-6

Over here in the US they tax the tips that waitresses & waiters make. The only sharing of tips is between the waitstaff & the bussers. But everybody lies on their tax returns about the amount of tips they make anyway.

Yes, tips are taxable income here. I don't think every lies about it on their tax forms, because I think the IRS has their own "formula" worked out for it anyway. Most people I know who get tips, always get slammed when doing taxes.

Well, it doesn't help that they make "what is it" like $5.00 under the minimum wage. They depend on those tips. I just bought a car for my daughter and had to lie about what I paid for it because the State of PA will try to grab as much tax as they can out of a sale. It was a used car and paid cash.

I know, it doesn't seem very fair they are taxed on it. State taxes went up here in Maryland also, we had to homestead our homes to prevent house taxes going up above 2% a year.
