Neither is the Missal the court of last resort; nor the Pope nor the Bishops.

Thanks. I had in mind that someday I would like to visit your beautiful Island country. I spent a great deal of time the other night looking things up. I understood it was the EURO but wanted it confirmed.

According to the Bible it is the love of money that is the root of all evil and not the money per se.

I think if I am to visit your country some day I'm going to need a fair pile of the root. LOL

telaquapacky wrote: Straight ahead, Paul! And easter is more than a marking of a solar cycle event. The first Sunday after the vernal equinox was the worship day of Ishtar, also called Ashteroth, Isis, Aphrodite (or was it Venus?). Ishtar was the Babylonian version of the Pagan fertility goddess. Ishtar is where the word "Easter" comes from. That's why Easter celebrations include bunnies (famed for fecundity), eggs (symbol of fertility) and other fertility fetishes. Christmas and Easter are only the tip of the iceberg of pagan customs imported into Christianity by the church of the west.

The gripe I have with Paganism is that in my faith, Christianity, Paganism has been brought in by force, so that today, mainstream Christianity is so polluted that it has mostly lost it's purpose. What is more, the branch of Christianity which brought in all this Paganism wants to rule over the whole Church and force everyone to think and worship as they do (which I do not) and be under the kingly authority of their leader. I have a problem with that.

Right on! I was once a pagan. Now a Christian. I feel that paganism is fundamentaly about grounding people to the Earth. Christianity is about drawing people to Heaven. I hold that we are meant to have our time here on Earth to learn and develop higher spirituality then be drawn up to higher things. Paganism holds us back. Christianity pulls us forward.

Yes - I read the entire thread. I agree many Christian holidays are here because the conversion from "pagan" to Christianty. They had to keep some of the old ways to convert these people to the new ways of Christianity. My SO asked me what the meaning of the summer solstice is - I told him it is the longest day of the year and it was celebrated in the old ways of worshipping nature. I am always amazed when the "new faith" called pagans "barbarians in faith". They knew how to plot the moon tides - the seasons of the year - the way to make a better harvest. I don't call that stupid, I call it survival. Who cares that they worshipped their science - it worked.

The use of pagan feast days simply made commone sense as it added in the element of competition.

Another point that has some connection here. If I had to believe as the theists do I would in fact become and atheist. However, that is not the case.
