FG Debates

Post by Pheasy »

In my year of being here I have seen many debates about many issues. I have seen some very strong beliefs and great reasoning. It has been great to see you all sharing your different views and logic. (Well most of the time :D I do object to the blood splats on occasion).

Anyway, I was wondering if any of us have changed our views on a certain subjects as a result. I don't mean learning new information, I mean changed views. Specifics would be great.

I'm sure there is more than I can remember. But I'm not sure I can say anyone has changed my feelings about my passions, although I think I am more aware of other people views.

Spot has made me think on occasion but not changed my feelings about a subject ( but there was the whole hanging me upside down with a crane thing ... :yh_hypno:yh_whistl :D)

I guess I have been shown the correct and most effective ways to debate an issue.

Different points of view are food for thought.:)

I have learned from so many here, I enjoy reading more than actually debating. I am amazed by the different cultures and beliefs that I have never really been in touch with as closely until I came to the garden.

I have full respect for everyone that takes the time to open up how they feel and see certain subjects and appreciate them for who they are, not necessarily for what they believe...

My opinions have been turned completely around as a result of the discussions I've had on this site. I can think of very little that I now regard to be reasonable which I thought before I started discussing the matters with people on FG.

The religious debates always interest me. But have yet to convince me, the whole gay thing and 'values/standards' thing come to mind.

I have certainly learned a huge amount and it has changed my opinions on many fronts.

Whilst I don't think any of my core beliefs have changed, my opinions on other matters have grown beyond measure.

I'm stood here in a long violet overcoat, long red gloves, a large striped hat with driving goggles attached and sporting a handlebar moustache and you're expecting me to untie you?

Muttley, do something!

It's the right mutt but entirely the wrong villain and you're meant to RESCUE PHEASY! That's what being a super-hero's for!

Being someone who really enjoys debates, I must say that I usually find myself thinking about something someone else has said, thats the thing about debating things in this kind of personal manner, is that even with views you disagree with strongly, you have to think about what the other viewpoint is if you are going to argue against it, and thats a good thing, as is often the case that you will eventually come to see the validity of someone else's point if in fact its better than your own. Though sometimes we just ignore that and go on with our own thing regardless.

Don't you find that there's a lag - initially you reject the idea but it keeps grating at the back of your mind and you eventually think, maybe there's truth in it after all?

Agree with the lag bit.

I suppose I can say my opinions are modified more often than changed: Feel more sympathy for Mugabe than I did, though I still think he's been a disaster for Zimbabwe.

Also, the big things that change my opinion don't tend to happen on these boards - My increased awareness of the reality and dangers of climate change has changed my life more than anything since my divorce and my opinions on many issues more than anything else I can think of.

Lone voice: "I'm not."

My opinions have changed on a lot of subjects. I also have learned many things and have been made aware of things I never knew. In fact I'd like to thank all the people who contribute to the religious, political, military etc. etc. threads, even the moron threads.

I have learned one thing for sure.. I used to think Jimbo was a moron and now there is no doubt, so thank all of you very much for your insights..:wah::wah:
