Update On Lon

Post by Lon »

I was diagnosed in October with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma B-Cell. I had no symptoms and the disease was picked up by a yearly blood test that showed some irregularities. Primary care doc referred me to a specialist (oncologist) and chemo treatment was begun over a 8 day period beginning before Xmas and ending on the 27th of Dec. I have had no negative response to any of the treatments, no nausea, no hair loss, no fatigue or loss of energy. In fact, I have been as physically active as before my diagnosis. I start another 8 day cycle on the 1st of February which consists of daily infusions of various chemicals and oral medication. That will end the treatments for two months and they will check my blood for 12 different tests to see any positive results of the chemo. The disease that I have is more specifically called Waldenstrom's. There is no cure, but it is slow growing and I will in all probability die with it rather than from it. The purpose of the treatments is to bring about remission. I am 73 and have had a fantastic and full life. When I go to the Cancer Center for my infusion, it's hard to feel sorry for myself when I see 12 year old kids getting similar treatment for leukemia. I am still swimming and playing tennis and golf several times weekly and feel so lucky to be able to continue being active. There will be a time I am sure, when these activities will be lessened, it just isn't now.

Thanks for asking

You were born on the planet Krypton, mate. Stands to reason.

It all sounds good, I'm delighted to hear it.

I continue to feel very well and am still physically active. I will have a CAT SCAN in a couple of weeks to see if the affected lymph glands have been reduced by the treatments that I have completed. Meanwhile all the blood work numbers are heading in the right direction and in anticipation that I will be in some kind of remission, we are planning a cruise on the Windstar in November. 15 days-------From Lisbon to Barbados. We will spend a week or so visiting some friends in the Algarve (Portugal) prior to the cruise. This is the ship we will be sailing on. We have sailed on her twice before.

News sounds good

My husband was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph glands 2004.

Had surgery removing some glands and its now 2008, he's doing great and is back to work.

We've booked our trip to Hawaii for a month in Nov.

We've also have some interest in the Windstar cruise - so please keep us posted on how wonderful your trip is.

Have you been on cruises before? We've Been on a couple - I think it's the only way to travel.

Enjoy

Glad your doing great
