My laptop goes dim when it's on battery and brighter when it's on electricity.
Check your power connections, maybe?

If the brightness trips from bright to dim when you move the lid, and you can let go and it stays randomly in one state or another, then you've a loose connection. You're in warranty, you can get that fixed by the supplier. If it changes setting without you touching it we might try to find a pattern, but that would sound more software-triggered.
