Marina bans topless fishing tours

Print story Email to a friend Font size:FORT PIERCE, Fla., April 4 (UPI) -- The city marina of Fort Pierce, Fla., has banned a charter fishing service that offers tours with topless and bikini-clad female mates.

City officials said they ordered Smokin' Em Charters to leave the marina after they discovered purchasers of the company's fishing tours could pay extra for a tour with scantily-clad women acting as mates, the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post reported Friday.

"We had no idea this was going on," said Dean Kubitschek, manager of the Fort Pierce City Marina. "I can't have families running up to me with brochures with nude ladies on them saying, 'What's this?' It's not right."

Kathi and Harold "Captain Gil" Coombes, who have run the company for about eight years, said they have moved their business to Harbortown Marina. They said they are circulating a petition and hope to change the minds of city officials.

Well.....I think the women are stupid for doing that but it's their body, if they want to cheapen it, go ahead. I also think it sucks that somebody's making a profit off some woman's goods. That bugs me big time. And it bugs me that the women are allowing it.

But otherwise, big deal. As long as they don't strip until they're way out in the basin, I think they have as much right to be there as anyone else. We can't protect kids from every dang thing, and what's a breast anyway?

Now I know they are doing it themselves but if you look at the whole picture, it just doesn't seem right. If we showcase ourselves like that as if we're doing nothing wrong and don't care we are only reinforcing the message that we are a piece of meat and don't matter.

Another example, my friend Louisa was in Amsterdam a couple of weekends ago and out of curiousity they all went for a look in the red light district. Now Louisa is one of the most open minded people I know and she said that she was disgusted. How can we expect to be treated as equals when we are not allowing ourselves to be handled as one? She said that all the men using these facilities and there were thousands had no respect for these women, they were only like vessels. We fight in so many countries in the world today to have equality and to be understood but yet through our behaviour we demand to be used and abused sometimes.

I try to think to each their own and let people do what they want but this is an issue where I find it difficult to be so openminded.

Hmm. I had to think on your answer, Jennyswan. I understand what you are saying about equality but the reason I prickle at that is because (this is just how I'm seeing it) to say that we will never be equal or to ask how can we ever be equal implies that we are not already. Did that come out right? I may have butchered my thoughts there. Women have never been less than any man so are we equal to them? Yes! But do they treat us as such? Not always. How come if we see a woman cheaply dressed or hanging all over some guy at the bar we think "slut" and yet when men act that way, they're just being men? You never hear anyone say "that guy's cheap."

This may be off topic a bit, but at another forum I go to we had a big discussion about the double standard of men and women. Most of the guys said if a woman gave it up on the first date, they'd take it, sure but they'd never call her back because she didn't warrant their time. To me that says men like that are pigs, but yet we blame the woman because she did what men do (was equal) and didn't wait until six dates later.And here we are on a boat giving them their jollies for some ducats. They ought to be grateful to see it but they probably just think those women are hosebags.

The situation sucks.

I'm not linking my thoughts well and I know it. I'm sorry. I hope you can make sense out of what I'm trying to get at.

I totally agree with what your saying. That's the point I try to make. I'm sure it's safe to say that God made us all equal but women are definitely not treated equal. There are numerous countries in the world where women are treated like slaves, sold, degraded, mutilated and all because of laws that men have made. Even if you look at modern Ireland the women are still getting paid less for the same jobs that men do and that sexual standard applies here to. If a woman wants to have a load of one night stands then she's a slut and if the man does it then he's a stud. I even read an article lately where a pole taken revealed that a lot of men blamed women for rape because the woman had been dressed provocatively. That makes me sick!

I agree!! That is sickening!! I've been around 42 years now and I see not much has changed from my mom's time. Where do men pick up this attitude? Is it their fathers telling them this stuff when they're boys? Is it overprotective mothers? Is it church? I once watched these wannabe studpuppies called the Dogg Brothers on TV. They went out every night to pick up women. They admitted right out that they'd sleep with any who offered, you bet, but they only wanted a "nice girl" to bring home to their mom. If I had a son who thought like that, I'd smack the everloving crap out of him. (Regardless of all my posts about not hitting kids)

So my question is where do guys and men learn such disrespect for women?? Okay I dropped the bait.....let's see if we get any nibbles.....
