I worry too Much ....

Post by Pheasy »

:wah::wah: Right you can all get off the floor laughing, and saying 'ya think!' :wah:

The trouble is I have next to zero trust in others when it comes to my children. Their peers, their school - everything. Is this telling them that I don't trust them?

I know I am in danger of suffocating them with my worries, I know I need to back off.

The knowing is one thing, the doing are not so easy.

When I read about 8 year olds conspiring to murder a teacher, or 6-8 year olds deliberately pulling a 7 year olds tooth out, and all the other stuff we hear - I know my kids would never do anything like that. Their respect of all things living, and passion when it comes to cruelty, tells me they would never ever do this.

Stupidity(stupid stuff), is the only thing that has ever got my son in to trouble. Both my children have hearts of gold.

I know it appears that I am always 'on the schools case', I do a lot with both schools, work very close with them, on both the positive and negative. My recent thing with the school nurse, is not just an excuse to complain - when I put trust in to others, I expect them to be capable of doing what they are supposed to do. If they cannot fore fill simple daily requirements, then how do I know they will be able to deal with a real emergency.

I'm fairly certain that a lot of these problem kids have come from parents who don't worry enough. I know I am the other extreme .... can anyone suggest a way of coming up with a good balance?

I don't promise to stop creating my worry threads though :D

Why do you need to change?

I'm not sure I'd be that trusting of people with my kids either if I had them. Not nowadays anyway.

Listen, when it comes to your kids how can you stop worrying, especially with all the stuff you hear in the news these days. The conflict is, how do you both protect them and prepare them at the same time? We are so afraid of our kids getting hurt that we do not give them any space to make errors or get hurt. How can you ever learn to get back up if you never fall down??

It is a very different time that we raise are kids in these days (but I guess it always is for every generation), but the access to violence through TV, videos and internet is like never before. Only this week in Dublin a group of young teen video a group sex with a number of boys with one girl and emailed it around the internet. There is so much more out there to have to protect your kids from.

Thanks for the responses - a thread worrying about worrying. :wah:

How can you ever learn to get back up if you never fall down?? Very, very true - my best lessons were learned by making the mistake. The problem these days is the stakes seem so much higher, and you can no longer expect the people left in charge of your children to protect them .... they to are fearful.
