Polygamous Sect

This current story, which I am sure most have seen on the telly, is very strange. Does anyone know much about this type of thing? Is all done in the name of religion? Do many exist? I can't understand anyone falling for it - just weird.

I feel sorry for the children.

This one really scares me. Its easy to forget just how damn big America is and how much weird stuff there can be tucked away in it. I hope they bring the hammer down on these sickos.

Women and Children are treated as slave in simple terms to the men of the sect. This patricular one broke away from the LDS church in Utah because of the leaders desire to be a Polygamous. He is now sitting in jail and I hope he stays there the rest of his life.

It would be nice to see the property turned into a Camp or a retreat for children. It is certain the ones they have moved off the property will never go back there.

The head of the sect - Mr. Jessops is in jail. He was the leader of this particular old world Mormon sect. They finally got the kids out because a 16 year old girld was being married off to a 40 something man. EEEWWWW She didn't like it because she is in love with a 17 year old boy who was going to be ousted by the sect for loving her. Older men oust young boys so they can have the young girls.

Its sad for the kids and the young men too. In order for the old men to have a lot of young birdes, they kick the young boys out to make sure there are plenty of young girls available. In addition to that, the kids are told that if they blow the whistle their parents will be kicked out too since they do not own property they can do nothing about it.

The kids are taught from a very early age that all outsiders are evil and that if they leave they will be put into prostitution in the outside world.

but in fact these old men do not legally marry the young girls, they call it a spiritual marriage so therre is no records to prove they have comiitted an illegal act of polygamy. So all these girls collect welfare and the money is pooled and sent to the leaders like Warren Jeffs.

I knew a few mormon familys and they laughed when I asked if they had wives on other places. They said they are not that kind of mormons.

It's important to know that these sects are spin-offs. The actual LDS Church does not support polygamy.

That's true, Acc. Good point. Is brainwashing a crime? I can't think of what it'd fall under but I think it ought to carry some weight in this case.

I've forced myself to stop and think before I posted, in fact I've been

sitting here for some minutes with a blank box in front of me.

I think polygyny is wrong. I see it as once again the male of the

species wielding power over the downtrodden female of the species

and the offspring. Forcing out adolescent males and making virtually

every female subject to a lifetime of domination in all aspects of

her life. Legally marrying only one woman so the rest can collect

welfare.

I see all those women in the long dresses and I just think lack of

freedom of expression, at the very least. They might as well all

be wearing chadors and veils.

UGH.

I agree with you Val that they shouldn't claim to be single mothers to take advantage of welfare. I'm sure that such dishonesty goes their religious doctrines.

Im not in the frame of mind to pass judgement on others nor am I willing to voluntarily allow legislation to be passed on what may or may not occur in peoples homes.
