Red Ken Says Give Asylum Seekers Cut Price Bus Travel.

Post by AA grumpy »

welcome back to grumpy towers

KEN Livingstone has come up with an incredible election strategy - give asylum seekers cut-price bus travel.

He revealed the vote-losing plan to give immigrants Oyster cards with discounts during a London Mayor debate.

He pledged he will seek to use funds provided by Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez to subsidise public transport for failed asylum seekers.

All four leading candidates in the London mayoral election were last night asked to back a proposal to pay for travel to immigration offices for people whose asylum application has been rejected.

Mr Livingstone said he could foresee legal problems with doing this but had an idea for a way around it if he is re-elected on May 1.

He proposed using money from a controversial deal he signed with a Venezuelan oil company in February last year in return for providing expertise from Greater London Authority officials.

The Labour mayor said: “(Mr Chavez) has given us £14 million that allows people on benefits to get half-price travel on the bus.

“I would ask him if he is prepared to amend the scheme to cover failed asylum seekers.

Mr Livingstone was speaking alongside his principal election rivals Boris Johnson, Brian Paddick and Sian Berry at an “accountability assembly organised by London Citizens, an alliance of 100 grassroots community groups in the capital.

this is classic loony labour at its best.

how the hell red ken can expect to win an election with this proposal is anyones guess as well as the £25 a day london congestion charge

had ken had a snifter or two of the falling down water before he made this statement?

these sort of statements prove beyond doubt that ken is a liability like his labour masters and its time to kick red ken out of office and kick labour out of power at the next general election.

It's very simple really. Adults who live in London have experience of Red Ken and they can read the manifestos of the alternative candidates and make their minds up on how much they believe what's on offer. Many will vote on that basis.

Red Ken can reasonably feel his record is very much in his favour but we have a simple reality check in the form of the election itself. I'll bring this thread back up after it's finished and we can discuss the intelligence of Londoners then, how's that?

The only info on that i could find was a link to "the sun" so I think ill take it with a pinch of salt ;)

The cut price oyster card seems to be something available to all people on benefits, I dont think this is necessarily a bad thing. Tube travel in London without an oyster card is prohibitively expensive, and would be out of the question for most people on low incomes

It doesnt say thats what hes definitely going to do. Im not even sure what the big problem would be anyway unless it was something ONLY available to asylum seekers

Remember, this was only to be available to failed asylum seekers.

It would also be interesting to know who asked all four candidates to back the proposal - sounds like it wasn't Ken's proposal in the first place.
