Little Couches not good for sleeping..

Post by Sheryl »

My son fell through the safety netting on the trampoline yesterday and broke his arm. He broke the bone just above his elbow. We went to local ER where they did x-rays, then transferred us to Amarillo. There it was decided he needed a quick surgery to pin the bone in place. So after 8 hours in the hospital and a hours drive home, I was tired. But my son's bed is a top bunk only bed. So he's on the couch for the next 5 or so weeks. I helped him into the house and onto the long couch. Got his arm propped up and he quickly went to sleep. I decided to sleep on the little couch, so if he woke up hurting I could quickly give his meds. Arghhhhhhhh now I'm hurting.

But my son is excited about getting to pick out a colored cast next week, after they remove the pins. :wah:

Sheryl sorry to hear about your Son's accident kids are resilient and heal fast. Might I suggest if your going to be sleeping near him you may want to get air mattresses for both of you to sleep on. They are great and really nice to sleep on. Target, Walmart have very cheap ones that won't set you back more than $20.00 bucks for the single size. You need your rest and couches aren't that comfortable for sleeping.

Thanks guys! He was a real trooper yesterday. The only time it got scary was when we had to explain he was going to have surgery. He had two concerns, one was having a nightmare while asleep, and the other was if he had to go to the restroom in the middle of the surgery. :o

Thanks for the suggestion Carla. My parents have one and I will borrow it for Zakk. Tonight I'm going back to my bed. And I'll put him on the air mattress in the floor in my room.

Good question Zakk I have been knocked out far to many times to remember for surgeries and I never thought about this. What was the answer?? I always figured the anesthesia stopped all bodily functions for a short period of time. If you have a longer surgery they catherize you, not fun and you don't need to know what it is just yet.

We didn't go into graphic details about getting a catheter, but just explained that the doctors knew how to deal with him if he had to go to the restroom. But he was only in there for 45 minutes. And I think with having nothing to eat or drink for 6 hours before surgery, he didn't really have to worry about it.

Oh, the poor kid, worrying more about the surgery and all-he sounds like a sturdy kid! He will be better soon, and hopefully you too with all of this! Hugs for you both!

I am sorry to hear about your son’s accident. As bad as it was thank God you have a safety net or it could have been a lot worse.

My sister is a nurse in an A&E and she sees so many kids come in with very serious trampoline injuries who did not have safety nets.

Maybe it is a good thing that we left our trampaline behind at the old place, have had for over 7 years and thankfully never any injuries!....it could've been just a matter of time...

I agree that you are a good mom, and I feel your pain from sleeping on the small couch....OUCH!! Glad you are back in your bed and hope that you and Zakk get some much needed rest.

Keep us informed on the color of the cast he chooses!! That's important stuff ya know!!:wah:

Wow Chezzie that looks just like our trampoline. :lips:

Things are better today, he is just bored. He cannot play video games, go outside and play, and he's already tired of tv. I'm letting him play games on his dad's computer. SHHHHHH we aren't gonna let firebird know.

Right now i"m trying to figure out what exactly is going to happen when they remove these pins next week. And how much pain is there going to be for him.
