Calling all computer experts

Post by Pheasy »

I have a friend who is having a very bad time right now. She has 2 girls (3 and 7 years), each week she scraps around to find money to feed the girls - its very sad and this week she has hit rock bottom. Then to top it her computer just won't switch on anymore and she needs it to earn what little money she gets. So I have my old laptop which I was going to give her, but when I switch it on it says UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME (I am thinking virus as the last person to mess about with it was one of Minime 'friends' :-5) but thats just my wild guess - please please can anyone help? :-6

This isn't uncommon and not knowing precisely the info from the error message it's hard to say precisely what the cause was in your situation... but your best bet if you're unfamiliar with this is to use the Windows error reporting pop-up function... send the error report then check for a workaround or fix.

Do you have any further information regarding the error message? Was 0xC0000032 a part of the error message by chance? If so, that means that the file system is damaged. Otherwise it likely has to do with your UDMA controller.

Something to try :-

Reboot the PC and hit F8 during the boot process - this should force the PC into recovery mode.

When the reboot is complete type

CHKDSK /r

and hit enter

When the disk repare is complete reboot again
