How long can you hold your breath?

David Blaine did it on Oprah... for 17 minutes 4.4 seconds so now he's

the Guinness world record holder.

I remember hearing years ago about somebody who held it for

3 minutes and I thought THAT was long!!

Seems like a stupid thing to do unless you need to for survival why would you deprive yourself of oxygen?? :-2

17 minutes is amazing if true. I've heard magicians can slow down metabolism and nervous system function in order to do this.

Didn't you all try to see who could hold their breath the longest as a kid? I remember trying to in the swimming pool,underwater of course, no cheating :wah:

I used to do it underwater, hold my breath that is!!....17 minutes is CRAZY!! But some people will do anything for fame won't they?

Fuzzy, what ya say we do something to become famous?? Any suggestions?

17 minutes is quite amazing! But Blane just does "things" to his body.

However, I've seen this guy "Chris Angel" supposedly "walk on water", live in front of his audiance. As well as "levitate" over a gazillion watt light beam on a hotel in Vegas. As well as get "rolled over" by a steam roller "on the street", not a TV set, again in front of a live audiance! Anyone else see this guy!

But I do wonder if Chris Angel could hold his breath for 17 minutes-4.4 seconds!
