Well, its seems like the mood in the British electorate has changed "significantly" to use a euphemism, god all those years that the Brownites couldn't wait to get rid of tony blair looks like he has had the last laugh on them.

I find it amazing bungling Boris being mayor of London!

The town along from me (Bury) is now under the control of the Conservatives.

Not at all Suzy, it'll be interesting to see what he can manage on behalf of Londoners. He deserves support now that he's been elected.

His name's Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, he's of Turkish descent and he was born in New York though he's repudiated US citizenship. The other politician he most brings to mind, for me at least, is Bill Clinton.

My favourite of his campaigning slogans, "Voting Tory will cause your wife to have bigger breasts and increase your chances of owning a BMW M3".

I think its great that you have a kinda slightly eccentric but intelligent, (if somewhat oblique) unashamedly tory boy with long straw-coloured hair in charge instead of that sanctimonious old Labour windbag, Ken. Also despite my instincts of not being very pro-tory (its an Irish thing), I am so bored with listening to the endless crap from that New Labour crowd of bedwetters, anything would be better for a change.

Might I note in passing that Bertie Ahern will be missed, I've always admired his negotiating skills. He's been a fine hand at steering your country. I'll wish him a long and enjoyable retirement, much as I do for that "sanctimonious old Labour windbag" who used to be Labour's young cutting edge.

Yeah, Bertie had some great qualities (as does Ken Livingstone it must be said), but in Berties case, he grew up in a political culture that was far too tolerant of corruption and cronyism, and it got him in the end, he had a good run.

I never would of guessed that Boris would of won, but I suppose all the momentum over the last few months has been going away from Labour, so it will be interesting to see what kind of job he does!

Well said Chris

No one can do any worse than Ken has imo...

Time for a big change all round I think...

First time ever since I have been voting, I changed my vote completely......I voted independant, mainly due to their hard work on winning this case..

While I take great enjoyment from seeing the "Labour Party" get a good gubbing, I wonder how in all the hells a twat like Johnson actually got elected.

I sometimes despair, London has a population of 10 million or so, yet none of the parties involved (Labour, Tory or LibDem) managed to get 1.5 million votes.

If you don't vote you get the government you deserve, but you lose the right to complain about that government.
An ye harm none, do what ye will....
