October Gives Me Backache

Post by jones jones »

I have suffered from lower back pain since my twenties ¦ as did my father and his father before him. The onset of pain usually follows an incident or activity where I lifted and moved a heavy object of some sort.

I believe I have tried every known treatment available including manipulation, cold and hot compresses (including packs of frozen vegetables), exercise, prescription drugs and over - the - counter medications including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. I have tried acupuncture as well as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) administered by a battery-powered device. In fact about a the only thing I have not tried is a surgical procedure ¦ most likely because I am a scaredy cat.

This week we had no less than three public holidays here so I decided to plant some shrubs in terracotta pots on the paved braai area next to my townhouse. So Friday I planted nine and after lugging the shrubs, potting soil and pots around ¦ that night my back was pretty painful. All day Saturday something bothered me about the arrangement of the pots ¦ it wasn’t balanced! So this morning I drive to the nursery and buy another five pots and another five shrubs and plant them ¦ talk about a dumbass!

And that is why October gives me backache because according to my horoscope: “Libra governs the lumbar region, lower back and kidneys. Its subjects must beware of weaknesses in the back." Also: "The symbol associated with your sign is the scales of balance representing the balance that you continually seek in your self and your life.

Why couldn't i just have stuck to this: Traditional Libra Traits: Diplomatic and urbane .. Romantic and charming .. Easygoing and sociable .. Idealistic and peaceable!

Doesn't say "be a gardener" anywhere!

Libras seek balance in all that they do, they try to balance form, content, colors and the elements, which is probably why you couldn't resist buying those other plants!:wah:

but that's not all bad because it also draws you toward creative endeavors so you have it to thank in part for your wonderful talent as a writer! :-4

I was in bed 6 months unable to move.....started off with my slip disc but then other things happend.....including my muscles wasting away.Back problems are so hard to deal with at times as the pain can be so unbearable, anybody who suffers with this problem indeed has my sympathy.

you are so right carol ... backache is really really painful and very difficult to get any relief from unless you happy to walk around drugged up all the time!

Jj:-4JJ painkillers where real back pain is concerned are a waste of time.I say real........ meaning to the point where you just cant move at all because of the pain.

Welcome and it has really helped my husband. He went through all the things you mentioned and nothing helped him. He also was afraid of surgery. With the lumbar blocks, he can now even chop wood and do all the things he used to be able to do. Again, I wish you the best in finding the treatment that will work for you.

Nothing worse that spinal pain, or back pain I know been down both roads. I have cadaver bone in parts of my cerival spine at c4,c5,c6,c7 I have had shoulder surgery, carpal tunel surgery on both hands and arthritis in my spine. Pain is my constant enemy daily. Sad to say there is no miracle cure for any of this just constant hard work on my part to keep the pain at bay.

When I get lazy as I am now an put on a few pounds my entire back suffers daily. When I pay attention to what my body is telling me and do my exercises that keep my stomach muscles in shape my back doesn't hurt. I learned the hard way the key to back pain is your stomach muscles the more fit they are the less back pain I have. It remember this that's the hard part. :-5

If you go to the link I have provided, the sympathetic nerve block is not a needle placed in your spine. An epidural is and they are not the same. Is there a needle involved in your back next to the spine? The answer is yes. Did it help my husband? The answer is yes. This link was not meant to give you medical advice, I just wanted you to know that this block has helped my husband. This was just a post for something perhaps you could ask your doctor about and get his feedback as to if this might be something that could help you. My husband has been pain free for over 4 years now. Once again, good luck to you.

Jj I understand your concern and if you can avoid it then more power to you. I will say this procedure dose work miracles for some chronic back pain suffers, and those with severe spinal (disc) issues who don't want to undergo surgery. Once again as TM said it is for you to decide.

well it's been said by some that women can naturally endure more pain than men because they have to deal with childbirth, but i don't know for sure. all i know is myself. :wah::wah:

read the article - X-ray is used for the exact area/nerve

so the DR can use a needle into your spine.

This is to deaden that nerve - eventually this dead nerve will make one over due themselves and now its a Disc or several.

remember this dead nerve supplied something else in your body, which will show up when your 60.

I had a surgery 1995 - a epidural was used - used improperly - injured my back

after several bandaid remedies - back surgery 1996, for suicidal pain....

Never again will any needle be near my spine - for any remedy

There are no answers for back/spine pain - its a individual tolerance to pain, and where that pain will lead ya. It led me to back surgery in 96, eventually the pain will again be too much.

Good luck JJ, get a hour back massage

How about progressive muscle relaxation? You've probably tried that already but it's good to release tension if you do it on a regular basis.

Now regarding the OCD plant issue. A couple of hours of cognitive behavioural therapy might help there. ;)

I had a libra boyfriend when I was 12 and I hated him with a passion. I've never dated a libra guy since, not even tried. I actually laughed out loud when I thought about it where it had it's beginnings. :p

hi jennyswan from irelend ...

i have tried so many different treatments for my back pain that i can no no longer remember which i have tried and which not ... if i haven't yet done the progressive muscle relaxation one then i surely will ... thank you ...

i do not believe that the plant thing is obsessive compulsive but simply more of a desire for balance in my life ...

i am so sad about your libra boyfriend as such a strong negative feeling as hatred should not really be a part of anyone's make-up .... expressing love towards people brings far far better rewards ...

as for never having dated a libra guy nor even tried ... blue is the colour of the libran and men who love blue are like concert pianists, delicately ravaging their partner like they would play a baby grand ... just imagine what you've missed!

have an awesome day!

How's:-4 this ducks??

Jj

High emotions and elaborate displays from one of the most sensuous combinations of all.

For Scorpio: This is not bad. Probably the most erotic sexual combination. The Fish is willing to be a part of your whims and desires, and that makes for a lasting union.

For Pisces: This is a highly sexual union. You love to be possessed and cared for with the deep, warm affection that the Scorpion can provide. Truly a match made in heaven.

A lasting mating. Scorpio’s strength compliments Pisces indecisiveness. Pisces imagination sparks Scorpio’s creativity. Great sexually. Both compliment each other.

I get a lumbar epidural twice a year due to having arthritis in my spine.

I'm very glad to say that it works fine for me so far.

It doesn't work for everyone though.

JJ- I understand where you are coming from with your back pain.

It sucks :(
