Baby`s Names.

Post by john8pies »

Do you generally speaking think it`s okay to give a baby whatever name you want, since its your baby?

This week I`ve seen one name which was actually spelled incorrectly, and also another baby named Ajax Rio. (For non-Europeans, Ajax is a soccer team from Amsterdam and Rio is the name of an English soccer player, Rio Ferdinand. Though the older among us may also remember the Vim-type cleansing scouring powder called Ajax!)

Do you think this type of name is okay or do you think people should have more regard as to what they call their offspring?

Once met a family whose baby was named "Cremashell" pronounced like Cream a Shell!!!!! And also twins with the same name only spelled differently. How confusing could THAT get?? LOL...

Really I guess people can name their baby anything they want--the child is theirs, but I wonder too how bad would it have to get for somebody like child services to step in??!!!! LOL Or would they?? LOL

I think many adults would have chosen a different name from that given by the parents. Perhaps they could give newborns just a number until they are 18 year of age, and then let them choose their own name.

I,m sorry to say but we like odd names in my family. Some are strange and some not so strange depending what part of the world your from.

My father is Sicilian which gave us italian names that we were teased about in school and always hated. But now there are so many with different names some really funny ones. NO LAUGHING NOW!!! my full name is Giuseppina Filomena Elizabetta, others in the family have Mercurio, Sannoots, Vitina, Mima, Miano, Finuch, and too many more to mention, one of my daughters Carolina has named her first baby Keeno Kiko, I dread to think what she will call the next one which is due anytime now.

How about Cuqui (Cookie) my pet beagles name. :wah:

And how about Penn Jillette and his wife naming their baby Moxie Crimefighter

Jillettte? Ugh.

Pina, is your middle name after the saint? I went to St. Philomene's church

sometimes years ago...

I love Valerie but my middle name is Frances, after my maternal grandmother.

Always got teased about "Francis the Talking Mule" and I really hated it.

Hi Valerie.

No my middle name is after my God Mother. Pina is the last four letters of my first name which is from my Grandmother.

But there has just been a cousin of my grandmother made into a saint recently, dont know the details yet, her name was Giuseppina Suriano

Some of the baby names you hear today, seems like the parents put all the letters of the alphabet in a hat & just pulled out 5,6,7 or 8 letters and formed the baby's name! Tatawana, Vonzel, Tinesta, Daryana, and so on.

I used to have an Uncle known as "Jimmy" for all of his life, until he died. I then found out his "given" name on Birth certificate was "Vincent" which he didn't like so he called himself Jimmy. :-2

I just was blessed with my 6th grandchild.

My son named her Dakota Skye........... I like it but coming from the old school I also think the names should have some family name attached either in middle name or first...........

Just an old foggies opinion.

Your name and the others mentioned are beautiful. They are a reflection of your roots and your origin which I think makes them special. I have some close friends from sicily, the wife named Giuseppina also but she goes by Josephine here in U.S. I myself am half sicilian with family in Palermo.

Palermo land of the MAFIA. Your family are not far from mine Partinico a small town near Palermo. My Fathers name is Seminara and his mother was Giuseppina Suriano.

Pleased to say we are not part of the Mafia crowd, but my father was very proud of anything to do with them.

My grandfather's last name was Maniscalco....not a member of Mafia either....but knew everyone like they were family!! Just the way he was. I can remember driving around running errands with him when I was a little girl. Everywhere we went we had a big conversation with some worker about their entire family, their kids and their kid's kids!!! I do miss him!

It is true it is their baby and they should be able to name it whatever they want, but that baby will eventually grow up with that weird name and have to go job seeking. Some employers may not think it is as cute as the parents did 18 or 20 years ago.

Our family has always given either the first or middle name as a family name - the child is called by the non-family name. There have been many instances the child chose to go by the "new" family name. SSN doesn't care as long as you keep everything legal. LOL
