If my kids could find their passion early on, apply themselves in the world to reach their potentials, be content and self-sufficient, wise and caring, expressive and connect to a spiritual source that sustains them and allows them to grow, find and keep loving friends and experience a profound love with a significant other then I'd consider them growing in the right direction. Or am I being too idealistic? Heck I can't even do this! :-6

When I've heard people use it they usually mean think before you act.

Trouble is, very few adults do this anyway.

Hmmm good question.

Well my view would be this. :)

Whenever I was told by my parents to grow up, I felt that it meant to simply try and take more responsibilty for your actions and try to go from having a childish run away from things, to a more adult approach by experiencing things, good or bad, and to develop on those as a person and learn in your own special way that makes you an individual.

It certainly helps if you aren't pressured into this development and for me I was lucky that my parents let me grow at my own pace and have that balance of fun and messing around like I did as a kid, and yet still be able to act maturely and responsible, that I like to think I have now.

Hehehe I've just finished an essay on 'Adolescence - becoming an adult'

according to the specialists its just finding your way in life, a period of storm and stress (Halls Theory) with lots of challenges to be faced, it happens at different times for different people.

I don't think the term 'grow up' is used exclusively for younger people but I have noticed that youngsters who think that they have arrived at adulthood use it a lot as a put down to someone they want to belittle.

OMG referencing has been hammered into me so much this last year I referenced a post. :wah::wah:

Oh my God, I never tell my kids to ‘grow up’, they are doing it so fast I want them to slow down.

That’s what I keep telling them, slow down, don’t grow up so fast, enjoy being young.

But they just keep on growing¦

Skittles

Have you grown up since my last reply ??

Growing up - usually means a reply - comment - action - is inappropriate.

You can't stop normal - common instinct to motion/act ..

Growing up has taught me to DELAY / THINK before the reply at the appropriate situation..

I wish I knew what I know now - when I was 20..!!

We all go thru this.

Do you really want to *ugh* grow up? Then try empathy at every opportunity. When someone does something dumb, or mean, or completely unexpected, try to imagine why they would do that. Put yourself in their shoes, especially when someone is angry or dissatisfied with you.

What I really think, though, is that you're more grown than you realize. The road looks really long if you don't realize you've already crossed the finish line.

Growing up means, you get to pay for dinner when your kids call and say would you like to go out to eat with us?

Growing up means the person you work with is the same age as your youngest child.

Growing up means the music on the radio doesn't sound like music and you quickly search for an oldies station.

Growing up means you yearn for that phrase "oh, why don't you grow up!"

Growing up means you can get discounts for senior (I like seasoned) citizens, whooopee! :yh_eyebro

Growing up means dinner sounds good at 4:30 PM

Growing up means you are looking in catalogues for a metal detector so you can walk the beach in shorts, knee high sock and winged tip shoes. :wah:

Gowing up means fun!...if you play your cards right.
