Why i don't like Football/Soccer

Post by Musiclover89 »

Ok many people who know me often ask me why i don't like football well main reason is that its incredibly boring and repatitve no i'm not saying this cause Rangers lost i mean i don't care if they win or lose as i do with any other team in the world but Football to me is just an excuse for people to get drunk most of the time, and it causes to many arguments not to mention racism among other things, people take Football way to seriously i mean its only a game and i cant understand why people get so worked up if there team loses its the same in life you win and you lose why should Football be any different.

But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, 'I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight', people would say, 'Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. You can't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth.' " Michael Jackson

Hmmm I have to agree with you to an extent MC, I mean it is commonly known that a lot of football fans are known for there thug like behaviour, but there are many out there that have the passion without the need to get drunk or hurl abuse at opposite fans.

It's something that I know the FA are trying to cut out, but I can't see it happening at least in the short term. I agree that it is only a game and that is what people should remember, but sometimes what's going on in the game can cloud your judgement and you do out of the ordinary things, and as a result we see awful scenes like the ones from Manchester.

If you look at other sports though, like Rugby the fans are much more responsible, so you have to ask, what differences are there between the fans, and what can be done, to cut out this reputation that our football game is getting.

I guess for me is, it's a passion, dont know why I feel this way it's a family thing.

The euphoria I feel when my team score is tremendous and I have to say I felt bereft at my final home game. :-1

Well you still have a Champions League game to look forward too, and on current form, you should be celebrating again in a few days. :-6

That's true, I've only been to about 5 home games before, and although we don't have as big a capacity as you do, the atmosphere is still great, so I see where you are coming from!

Shame that they can't have had an all English final in England, I mean Russia is somewhat far for all the fans to travel for just one game, all be it, such a huge one!

I've been looking at the cheapest way to get there and the cheapest is, Heathrow-Bahrain-Bahrain-Moscow=£500.

I bet the bugger that decided Moscow is tucking into his caviar as we speak. :wah:

You know after events in Manchester a few days ago, it got me thinking. You think their might be any after effect if (sorry when :p) Man U win the cup and come back for the bus tour and/or celebrations. The police or council may decide against it - I hope not for all your fans as it would really put a real damper on the victory!

I can understand why people don't like soccer, there is a lot of rubbish that goes with it, but like Abbey, I was brought up in Birmingham, and the Villa are just a big part of the community identity in the city I grew up in, and even though I came back to Ireland when I was nine, the Villa has always been the little link back to the place I was born in, and when I drop over to visit the English cousins we all usually try to get a match in, its a family thing, so it means a lot to us. Non soccer people wouldn't really understand it, but the ties people (and whole families) have to clubs can be extraordinarily strong. So personally I have to say I love soccer, more especially the Villa. Scenes like those in Manchester though are apalling, and that part of the thing I can't stand. But I would have to say that most football fans (95 percent) are just ordinary people who have a passion for their team.

I was thinking about the violence side of the game last night, it's a shame that a handful of hardcore fans give us a bad name.

When I saw on the news the way the Rangers fans behaved when the screen went down in Piccadilly Gardens I said

"I dont blame them I'd be bloody angry too!"

But then I thought back to the cup game we played against Arsenal at home and we battered them 4-0.

When I got to the ground I was refused entry along with a couple of thousand other supporters, a ballot had taken place and no one had been notified (typical corporate stupidity)

We were stuck outside the ground when the roar went up as the teams were announced, people were angry sure, did we kick off?

Did we buggery,we hotfooted off to find somewhere sharpish to watch it.

I've had people behind me at the match effin and jeffin at the officials and police because they were drunk and got themselves kicked out 10 minutes into the game and they'd travelled from London!

Silly sods, was it worth it?

It's all about passion and etiquette, some have it, some dont. ;)

Never followed the sport for exactly the reasons you talk about - the family wasn't interested mostly because cricket and rugby dominated (Dad played for Surrey just after WW2 and the Five Nations was a compulsory annual family event).

Have to say it's refreshing to see an FA Cup Final involving Portsmouth and Cardiff and none of the big names anywhere in sight. Even someone like me can see the romance in that.

I think one of the reasons (perhaps the main reason) why rugby fans tend to be better behaved is that a high proportion of fans are ex-players and the smaller crowds are to some extent self-policing. The is some concern expressed on the rugby message boards that the rise in popularity of the game has attracted some footie fans who try to start working up the hate, but when an 18 stone 6'6" ex-lock turns round and tells them to stop it they do...:wah:
The crowd: "Yes! We are all individuals!"

Lone voice: "I'm not."

one thing i've always wanted to know about soccer but have been too afraid to

ask in case i got beaten up is ....

why do the players spit so much?

as soon as their feet touch the turf they start spitting ...

doesn't the pitch get very slippery towards the end of the second half and isn't

spitting very unhygienic?
