Laptop problems.........
I have an Acer laptop, but for some reason it takes ages to log on, when i go through my password it says server not found, it sometimes can take as long as 45 mins to get online. Why does it do that?
Laptop problems.........
Have you tried starting windows with the "Last known good" startup option?
Press F8 as your computer is booting, and you should get the boot options,
where you can select "Last known good configuration"
Hope this helps...:-6

Thanks chezzie, il try that.....its a vista as well, which im not too keen on.
Laptop problems.........
My laptop is Vista too
I get on fine with it...try that or system restore..
You may need to install a patch for some software or if its just a problem getting online you may need to repair ie or firefox.
Sometimes going to windows update can also help with conflict probs
Hope that helps:-6

I guess the first question would be has it always been this slow? 45 minutes to logon is insane. If it hasn't always been the case then maybe a restore would help. As Chezzie said running update can help as well.
My guess is you have a internet connection issue that needs fixing. Are you dialup, DSL, Cable ?? Nothing should take 45 minutes to logon to the internet.
Could also be Firewall setting, Virus setting just about anything could cause you logon on problems but none should be 45 minutes. :-5

Why is your laptop trying to log onto a server?
Do you have any files on the laptop that you don't want to lose? Pretend for a moment that someone steals it an hour from now and you never see it again - are there photos on it that you'd lose permanently? Stories? Mail? Would any of those losses upset you? If so, back the stuff up - run the program that writes files to your CD writer, put in a blank CD and get your personal files safe.
If you use the recovery CD set which came with the Acer then the Acer will behave just the way it did out of the shop. Once you have your personal files safe that's a really good idea. It's like getting a new laptop. Then you can bring your personal files back onto it from the CD you wrote them to and you can do whatever you did when you bought the machine when you connected to the Internet and you'll be back online again.
What I do with a laptop to make it feel as slick as it will get is (this is an ordered list, don't skip any paragraph)...
Know that there's no virus or adware messing you up. If you don't have a current active virus barrier on the laptop then it's a useless laptop until it's cleaned, honestly. If you think you need help getting clean we can do that in this thread but you need to ask and we can talk you step by step through it.
Don't upgrade the operating system from what it was supplied with, there'll never be enough memory for the new operating system to work effectively in.
Eliminate all the redundant background tasks that Microsoft install by using the checklist at http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
Slot in a new memory chip if the laptop's not got the most that it can run. That's very cheap and it makes a huge difference. If you want to try that we'd need to know what your current system's like, which would involve you running http://belarc.com/free_download.html and posting the hardware section into this thread. Then we'll know what to suggest.
