An Atheist For President??

Not in my lifetime, although I never thought I would see a Catholic (Kennedy), a female (Clinton), or a African American (Obama) as contenders.

I really think that a Transvestite has a better chance than an atheist of being nominated for president of the U.S.

What are your thoughts.---------Could you support an atheist?

If God isnt on the candidates side Id like to know what spiritual force drives them.

If no spiritual self exists then that candidate is void of an important aspect of humanity in which case Id not tust them enough to vote for them.

I'm not a US citizen or resident, but I would prefer an atheist as a national leader.

I really think that a Transvestite has a better chance than an atheist of being nominated for president of the U.S.

Well, you had one as the head of the FBI.

it matters that the American citizen selects a Christian guided by the Spirit of Jesus, it's a pity nobody checked properly whether the current acolyte of Satan was just mouthing off when he laid claim to the experience. Oh - and check whether the candidates know what a Crusade is and that they're Bad Things before you choose this time, it's important.

I just had to go and dig out Bob Dylan's famous song

Agreed. I think we are where we are because of so many terms without a real God fearing president.

I thought the US had a policy of separation between church and state?

In that case an atheist would most likely be a better choice, and seeing what the God fearing Christian ones have done so far couldn't do much worse

I am getting the impression that people think atheists are somehow immoral or devoid of conscience. Is this correct or no? I personally can't imagine life as an atheist and it wouldn't work for me, but that said, there are a lot of good people out there who are not believers in anything bigger than themselves.

I would probably prefer having an atheist president over one who was overtly religious. At least let me say I can see where it would have its benefits.

I'd actually prefer an agnostic, myself. We seem to have had too much lately of absolutes.
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

Folks who'd like to copy my intellectual work should expect to pay me for it.:-6

Hmm---If you are saying that one must have a spiritual self in order to have a sense of humanity, I disagree Nomad.

What if someone lied to you and said they believed in God and were quite spiritual. How could you tell if they were lying? However, an atheist would never lie and say they were an atheist if they were not. I really feel that many say they believe because it is socially acceptable and can expedite their interests.

Spiritual self can come in all forms as is evidenced throuout the worlds religions and beliefs.

We as humans are inherently spiritual.

We universally seek for the truth to our place here on Earth.

We yearn for the comfort of Godly love.

We seek to find meaning to our existence in an otherwise vacuous and inane reality.

We strive to give our lives validity through spiritual reckoning.

To deny we are spiritual beings whatever that may mean to you is to deny self.

If a candidate can deny self his heart is hard and his mind is closed.

Thats not my guy.
