Keyhole surgery

I finally had my gallbladder removed and was told I was having keyhole sugery.

Keyhole my bum!

My stomach looks like the surgeon had had a night on the tiles!

I have two large incisions one above and one below my bellybutton and two small ones to the side all closed up with staples.

My mum calls me Frankentummy. :-2

The op went ok but I have to say I'm not too impressed with the morphine, it made me sick as anything for 12 hours and I itched like I had fleas, it prolonged my stay in hospital by 24 hours, I'll never have that stuff again.

The upside is, I'll now be able to eat & drink like a normal human being

Sorry to hear about the patchwork quilting and the horrible side effects but I bet it's nice to be normal again! :-4

Geeze.....I'm so sorry that you've gone through all of this pain. I know how you're feeling:(

I had my gallbladder taken out a long time, ago and I'm sorry to say Abbey that I'm not sure if you can eat like a normal person. This operation does not clear all problems. There are still organs in your body that make bile and this bile can turn into stones that can turn on you. You should really research the types of food that you can eat. Many people still suffer years after the operation.

I still suffer but that's because I'm a terrible eater. I don't eat healthy...just hot and spicy. I'm really hoping to clear this up this summer.

Best of luck to you Abbey and hope that you feel better. You've had a very tough year and certainly stress can affect your recovery.

I wish you a speedy recovery. 25 years ago when I had my gallbladder surgery, they were not doing the keyhole procedure. My incision is under my right rib cage and is about 12 inches long. I told my grandkids when they were little that it was a saber wound from sword fighting.:wah:

Keyhole or laparoscopy surgery is 100 time better than the old way they did the surgery as Lon can tell you it use to be a 12 inch scar. So sorry to hear you had such a bad reaction to Morphine.

You & I have something in common,morphine makes me itch as well:-5

geeze, I had my op about that time too, but thankfully I had a brilliant surgeon. I only have a 3 inch scar that is hardly visible now...guess I was just lucky. The worst part of the operation was that it took me so long to recover...8 weeks, maybe because I lost 30 pounds before the op due to the sickness.

I'm glad you're okay. Abbey, although I'm sorry you had to go through that. Morphine can do that to you. I take vicodin for osteoarthritis and if I take too much it makes me itch. I'm sure it was much worse for you though.

Please get lots of rest because it's very healing.

Your incisions may look nasty now but they have a way of healing quite nicely and fading some over time. :-4

TBH the scars dont really bother me that much, I'm not a vain person.

It was just a massive shock when I saw them, I just assumed keyhole would be teeny.

I know I have to watch what I eat still but I can't help feeling like a kid in a sweetshop.:yh_pig

I found out today I have the same district nurse that was caring for my dad.

She's a lovely, caring girl and we became good friends in that time so that reassured me.

She heads off to a new life down under at the end of the year for a better life,

A great loss to our NHS.

Silly abbey, if you'd just kept your gall bladder where it was meant to be they'd have found it first try.
