The Southern Cruisers Riding Club (SCRC) is a very large group, 30,000 strong in the U.S., with members in Canada, Europe, Australia and elsewhere. One of the Canada chapters has been in a severe accident. I don't know this particular group, but the news is sad just the same. This is a prime example of how much cagers need to pay attention to bikes on the road. Please keep your eyes and ears open when driving, people, bikers are everywhere.

Thanks

during bike week here there are invariably biker fatalities. and every time the automobile drivers involved say they "didn't see the bike". people simply don't know how to drive around bikes, especially en masse. and sometimes it IS the biker's fault, DUI because bike week is a big party. and as you know BR they need to wear their helmets! bikers are so vulnerable as in the example you linked.

Is Florida a "rider's choice" state LC? I would wear a helmet all during bike week no matter the law, too many drunk idiots. This particular instance, however, was a ten-bike pack, obeying the law. SCRC is well-known for it's "safety first" riding habits.

It's almost comical when our club gets together with the local SCRC here. The Angels ride parade-style, and the SCRC ride staggered, so it looks very "un-uniform" when the group is mixed.

I'm hearing that the driver that caused this accident later died, though that has not been confirmed. There was no booze or drugs involved, it was a cager that made an "unwise" decision and lost control.

Awesome post ladies. And yes sadly many people have no clue how to drive with bikers about. And in the warmer months it is like learning all over again when the bikes come out. On another note I would like to say.... be smart if your going to bike, drive for 2, yourself and the idiot near you who doesn't have a clue, defensive driving indeed. And.... OMG i can't tell you how often we see this, guys riding in.... shorts only, girls (passengers) wearing sandals come on folks a little common sense and dress for the ride. Protective gear is important.

No deaths have been confirmed, A. There is a rumor among the SCRC that the driver who caused the accident died, but no biker was killed. Bill, the 1st officer for that chapter had a leg severed in the crash, and his passenger lost her foot. A third member was injured, but we have no word on their condition yet.

Hell YES. If you're concerned about how you look or if your hair is going to get messed up, YOU DO NOT BELONG ON A BIKE AS AN OPERATOR OR PASSENGER!!!! Jeans, boots made for riding, leather vests, gloves, and helmet. Let me say that again: FOR THE OPERATOR AND PASSENGER BOTH. You want to wear shorts and sandals? You won't want all that skin exposed when it's covered in road rash!!!

Don't it all make you wonder where common sense got to???

I shudder everytime I see idiots dressed for fashion on a bike no matter the temps.

I blame it on safety laws. Young'uns go so far to flaunt them they forget common sense safety. They forget they're not immortal..... yet.

You know I have no sympathy when I see the road rash and skinned up fools laying in the roadway in shorts and tank tops......... Sorry.

Sadly it is usally a guy on a crotch rocket that is out in his shorts and flip flops and swerving thru yraffic going about 30 miles over the speedlimit.......... no pity what so ever here.

I use to ride on the street years ago but have not had a bike since the late 80's. It was about the same then, most accidents were from people not seeing the bikers. I always rode with this in the front of my mind and knock on wood never had a accident.

You won't get an argument from me, BTS. Shocking as that is... :yh_bigsmi

We have a term for the idiots on crotch rockets: organ donors.

The fashion here with the "crotch rockets" is matching stripey race leathers-to the bike I mean not each other. The derogatory term is liquorice allsorts. The real posers all ride Harleys. In the UK they are phenomenally expensive.
