Scalia's opinion in District of Columbia vs. Heller was joined by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justices Anthony M. Kennedy, Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr.
Joining Stevens in dissent were Justices David H. Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen G. Breyer.
