Do You Suffer From Synesthesia?

Post by jones jones »

this may sound really weird, but have you ever noticed that sometimes colours have certain scents attached to them, or scents have certain colours attached to them? like how blue smells like fresh! strange but true ... and if fluorescent pink had a scent, it would definitely smell like the 80's ... and that yellow smells like sunshine!

do you see white when you stub your toe? does the odour of road tar taste salty? does Sting's voice look like golden spheres? if so, you are almost certainly a synesthete like me ... (many people are!)

synesthesia literally refers to the fact that in some people, a stimulus in one sense modality ... ie hearing or touch ... involuntarily elicits a sensation in another sense modality ...

an example of this would be the taste of lemon visually evoking the color blue. other examples of synesthetic experiences people can have, just to name a few, are being able to see sounds as well as hear them ...

seeing or "knowing" the colors, sexes, and personalities of letters, numbers, and other symbols ... feeling weight and shape on their bodies by just tasting something and smelling colors ...

When I was a wee snot I ate a piece of lunch meat that was green and fuzzy. Got real sick. Don't think they called it synesthesia though. To this day I try to avoid green food.
