July 4th is on Friday! :yh_flag

i know this is strictly an American holiday, but has anybody got big plans for the 4th?

It's one advantage to living in Virginia, if you like history, we are surronded by it.

There is a place called Red Hill that's only about 5 miles from here, it's the home of Patrick Henry. We go every year, they have music and food, and costumed people demonstrating blacksmithing and soap making. crafts for sale and games for the kids.

and an actual descendant of Patrick Henry who reinacts his "give me liberty or give me death" speech.

then someone reads the Declaration of Independance and we sings songs and pledge to the flag, and finally they have a great fireworks display!

last year i carried a quilt to put out on the grass and Jacob and i layed out there and watched the fireworks, it was great!

Any other countries have an Independance Day of some kind? I would love to here about them!

We stay right here in our little town. In fact we just got the pamplet yesterday for the activities. They also give you free ice cream tickets and you get the family discount ticket for the fireworks.

The day starts at 7:45am and the big parade consists of all the borough's parks & recreational teams (baseball, softball & tennis players), old cars, motorcycles, fire engines, the whole kaboom adn always followed by the town trash truck. Sorta a joke, the town parade is not complete without the trash truck:wah:

They also have floats, best bike decoration contest, egg throwing contests, candy scrambles, bbq, flea market all in the same park, which is huge. Also, fire engine rides, bubble tents, the list goes on. And then at night, everyone goes to the borough hall to sit either in the parking lot or on the field to watch the fireworks.

Living in San Diego all my life and it being esentially a Military town there are a ton of "4th of July" events to go to. But the best show is the firework on the San Diego Bay.

I will have the pleasure of being with my family and grandchildren in Chatham, Ma on Cape Cod. Chatham is a small town that holds an old fashioned 4th of July parade. And because of the tourists, the streets are overflowing with people watching the parade. Flags are everywhere, people put their chairs on the curb the night before just to get a good seat. In the evening there is a baseball game. The Cape has a summer league made up of the best college players in the U.S.

A few hours at the beach, cookout on our deck and fireworks round out the day.

It really doens't get any better than that and God knows I appreciate it. Let's hope he agrees and the sun shines. :)

I have friends from the Cape and she just went up with her family to vacation. She always tells me "there is nothing like vacationing at the Cape for the 4th". I believe it. I also always give her my read copies of The Yankee magazine.

We sit on the front porch, with a grand view of the firework display over the Inner Harbor and Fort McHenry.

Oh, they have all the community trucks, fire engines and the last one is the trash truck. Last year they didn't have the trash truck in the parade and everybody was laughing cause they always have it in the parade. It's the last truck.

No real big plans...Six of us friends are going to the Indian casino that puts fireworks on along the beach of the river. So we'll be going and watching them.

I probably won't even be here on the FG that day. Way too busy with a complete list of activities for the 4th. Must say my little town knows how to throw a party.:wah:

Can someone upload some fireworks that we can enjoy here in our virtual neighborhood? Please! I've always enjoyed watching them, but haven't done so in years. It's dark now...........finally...........and I'll pull up my lawn chair and sit and just enjoy the show. :)
