Are You Afraid Of Dying?

Post by jones jones »

was speaking to a very special friend tonight about this topic ...

she said yes she's afraid of dying cos she may not have the time to tell people exactly how she feels ...

for my part i look upon death as an adventure into the unknown ... maybe a chance to start all over again ...

what do you think?

That's why i like to tell everybody i love, I LOVE YOU! everyday, because we never know what day will be our last.

Of course we all wonder about what happens when we die, and being raised as a Christian we have certain things instilled in us that leave you with a fear of death! Which is something i have been trying for years to get control of.

No - I'm not afraid to die

I'm in no hurry to die

Jones - as you said - I think of it as a adventure, another journey.

Not afraid of dying as much as the means. Afraid to live long in a world that's crashing around us. It's gonna be lots worse in a little while.

No.

I'm sure I've done it before.

I'm afraid of how it might happen.

Not at all afraid of what awaits.

When I first heard I had cancer, you bet. Then I realized you can let it beat you or you can fight to beat it. So far, so good I have won twice. I have everything in order just in case that "three strikes" your out rule really means something. So now, I will say NO to the question. :-6

Oh yeah, I think about it occasionally. As one who will be 74 within the week, and a prostate cancer survivor of 15 years, and more recently diagnosed last December with Waldenstron's Disease, dying does cross my mind.

My quality of life at present is excellent and I am doing and enjoying everything I want to do. My golf game has never been better, and I am a terror on the tennis courts, much to the dismay of my younger opponents.

Death it's self doesn't concern me, a long period of time connected to tubes does, and my living will hopefully will prevent that from happening. I must say that I really enjoy the little things that when younger we often take for granted, and I find myself being more tolerant and understanding of others. My affairs are all in order, my will is up to date, but I don't figure I will croak for a long time yet, at least not until I have seen Portugal, Brazil, Argentina and done a few more deep water dives.

It's like what a lot of you have said, i fear the means by which i might die too, we all would want it quick and as painless as possible i'm sure.

for me the perfect death would be to go in my sleep in the arms of someone i loved but that's like a scene from a movie or something i know, how often does that happen!

but one thought too, i live near a lot of widowed women we have a large group of

them in our neighborhood for some reason, but i've heard many of them say it's the one's who are left behind that suffer the most!

I'm not scared of dying, in a wierd way I thinko it's exciting to see what comes after and to hopefully know the answers to all those questions that will never get answered in this life.

Three years ago my sister told a massive lie about me. Its a long story but apparently she was jealous of me and when I found out about her lie I tried to tell my family the truth. She has always been an extremely convincing liar, her lies are SO huge that when you hear them you think it has to be the truth because people just don't tell such outrageous lies as that. Anyway, to stop me telling the truth she made her lie even bigger and more outrageous. My mother believed her, as she always does and she told my entire family what a horrible person I am and what a total bitch I am too. I have to tell you that I'm not. Sure I can be bitchy, just like the next person, but thats not how I like to lead my life.

Anyway, at that time I also fell pregnant. When I went for pregnancy tests I found I also had diabetes and several areas of 'early stage' cancer. I needed my mum and sister to talk to about this, but they totally rejected me. I've always been there for them, sent them flowers and money when they needed it and often for no reason at all, just cos they were feeling down. But when I really needed them they said hateful things and ignored me. Three months into the pregnancy I miscarried my baby. :-1 I became incredibly depressed. I tried hard not to cry in front of my kids and I only had one good friend who helped me through those years when life was so black. Then I felt death would have been a blessing as life was so unbelievably sh*t! Its taken about 3 years for me to get through that and come out the other side.

Now I have a job that I totally love. I'm only working part-time for now as I still have cancerous cells that need dealing with. It doesn't seem to matter how many times they remove them, they keep finding more! I'm sad that my family don't want to know me but I feel they're not the people I always thought they were, I don't know who they are anymore. But my other halfs mum and dad have been wonderful. My MIL is thoroughly upset about my mum and she can't understand why she has ignored us and ignored her grandchildren for 3 years. But she has been very good to us. She used to come down nearly every other weekend and help us out with money or things for the kids. It was nice to have her to talk to as the kids are a bit young to really understand and the other half couldn't cope with my tears and mood swings. He also works nights and sleeps days, so I don't see a great deal of him.

But since I started work again I feel my life has begun again. I have money that I can treat my family with, I can buy them nice things, clothes, treats. The other staff are friendly and welcoming, everyone is so nice and I've made some lovely new friends too. I'm walking to work every day and on my feet all day so getting fitter and healthier too and losing weight. ;) I'm also hoping to save enough to be able to take my family to Disneyland next year but (shhh!) thats a secret as I don't want to get their hopes up yet (just in case!). Life has improved SO much, simply because I've managed to find a job that I love.

So no, I'm not afraid of dying. I just hope that when I do my kids will be grown up and hopefully settled and happy in their lives. I hope I'll know that time is running out so I can say my goodbyes. I tell my kids I love them all the time anyway but I'd like them to know its a final goodbye and that it doesn't come as a total shock to them. I hope its pain-free but I would bear pain if I knew I could kiss them one last time. I hope I don't get old-timers and forget who they are, I think that would be heart-breaking for them. I've told them not to waste money on a big funeral. I've told them to have me cremated as its cheaper and to scatter my ashes off the back of the Isle of Wight ferry! That's good enough for me! :wah: The other half said you're probably not allowed to do that, but I told him to just chuck me overboard before they notice. They're not likely to try to sift my ashes from the waves are they?

I think this is a fantastic idea! I will do this too so they have something to remind them of my love. I have wondered whether to leave a letter for my mum and sister to tell them how I feel about their treatment of me, but I think it will be accusing and angry so I think it's better just to ignore it all.

Sorry to have gone on for so long, I didn't mean to when I started to reply.

I think it's a good question and my answer to it is no, I'm not afraid. I hope I'm surrounded by my family (hubby and kids) when I die, and that I can tell them I will always love them and say goodbye. I always tell them I love them anyway but I don't want them to have any doubts. I have a book with all my bank details and pension details and all information I think they might need. I need to get all my affairs totally in order and write those letters so I'll be happy that my family are cared for. Otherwise there's really nothing to worry about. ;)

I hated the movie Titanic for that reason.

like the majority of people on here, how and not when is the scarey part........

having seen my 98yr old great grandfather, who had barely had a days illness until that age, wired up to every machine possible to keep him alive and then sedated up to the eyeballs to keep him out of it, made me realize i dont want this to happen to me.

most of all, its leaving my family behind.

i've donated anything of use to the transplant people, at least some of me will go on a bit longer.

apart from all that, im a nosey so and so and i hate to think of things going on after ive gone that i wont know about !!

but i've got my own theories about that but this aint the thread for that.

my mums side of the family comes from the island, been a long time since ive been back there.

Thanks Nomad. You're right, it really is the hardest thing. Every day I worry about slipping backwards into the abyss, sometimes it feels the blackness is just waiting to swallow me up. Is that how you feel sometimes?

I like it best when I'm at work, doing what I enjoy. I work unpaid overtime every day, just so I can stay and not have to think about life and what might happen. I feel at peace there.

Hi Helen! :-4

that's one thing i would not want either i don't want to be hooked up to anything to prolong my life beyond it's natural end, i'd rather they just let me go.

i have some very specific ideas about whats gonna happen to me when i die too, but as you say that's for another thread! :-6

but i agree with a lot of you that the thing we're most afraid is how we are gonna die.

I can't swim either, and that's always concerned me.

but i've always said i would probably swerve to miss a squirrel or something in the road and hit a tree! that's like something i would do! :wah:

CEDARVILLE — Casey Terrell loved his work and was expected to go far in law enforcement.

That future was cut short when the Cedarville police officer was killed on U.S. Route 42 in a two-car accident Monday night.

Terrell, 24, of Xenia, was driving northeast on Ohio 42 near Tarbox-Cemetery Road at about 6:30 p.m. Monday when he swerved to miss a deer and went left of center.

Please please don't swerve to miss a squirrel...

But on the note of fear...I fear not living my life as opposed to dieing...Obviously I wouldn't find being lit ablaze to be all that exceptional...

okay i will try to curb my reaction to things being in the road! :wah:

but yeah we should live our life and not let it pass us by, we'll end up at the end of it looking back and saying what did i do with mine?

i have a horrible fear of being caught in a burning building i believe being killed in a fire would be one of the worse ways to go!

but my worse fear is being trapped under something like if a building collapsed on you or something and you're stuck there but you're still alive! Oh it gives me a chill just talking about it!
