We had a chap at school who was meant to be playing soccer but he picked up the ball and ran with it, that's how we got Rugby Football and you inherited the game where people don armour and make touchdowns. What she did's a lot like that.

He did, and she evidently has. Whether something positive comes of it, like it did at Rugby, we'll have to wait and see.

Why is it that Americans dig so far back into history when they try to justify the presence of their armed forces outside of their Homeland?

I was making a statement Spot...

I was making a statement that gave credibility to the reasoning of patriotism...

Why is it that you feel the Americans' effort in WW2 is undeserving of recognition?...

By your assessment of patriotism...

There's nothing wrong with patriotism...Only unjust people...

The matter of the Pacific theatre is entirely different, of course. Whether there would have been a Pacific War without the attack on Pearl Harbour I doubt. Whether the attack on Pearl Harbour would have happened without US provocation toward Japan I also doubt.

I think FDR's US administration sought to pressure US public opinion into wanting participation in World War Two and deliberately engineered an external attack on US soil to achieve that end. The parallel with 9/11 and the current administration is obvious.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of European citizens as well as the European military forces involved in the effort against the axis if asked if they wanted the United States' help in WW2 they would most assuredly accepted...

Would it not be reasonable to say that without the help of the United States in the war against the axis that it would have drawn out much longer than it had at the same time costing more people their lives?...I'm quite sure to those serving in the war that their families were much obliged...

Once you sign on you're committed to kill on command, and the ultimate source of all your orders lives in the White House.

Not with this American my friend...And there is far more like me than many may realize...I will not be ordered to kill in a war that I do not agree with and those to whom have the authority better get their hand cuffs ready in those instances...That is to say if they catch me after going AWOL...
