TM's Vent Thread

Post by Trunk Monkey »

Yesterday morning at 10 am, I was typing away and my PC warned me my modem had no phone connection. I looked outside and the town where I live were out there mowing the sides of the road. Well, the person mowing went way to close to the telephone pole and severed all my phone lines with his mower blade I called the town and they said they had called telephone repair and "they would get right on it". At this point, the town highway department supervisor admited that his worker had called in what he did to the pole and wires. I didn't get telephone service back until 10 am this morning. Then when the repair company came out they told me, it was going to cost ME $360 for the repair. The pole is not even on my property (I live on a 13 acre wooded lot). The pole is across the street from my lot on town owned property and I know this since I wanted to buy the property but the town refused to sell it. I did not do the damage, and now the town won't return phone calls! TG I took pics of the mower, the man mowing, and the damage that the blade caused. BUT who needs this and can you imagine being without phone service for 24 hours? What the heck would I have done if I didn't own a cell phone and had an emergency? I work from home and yesterday cost me over $500 in loss income. Now, more loss income trying to get the town to pay for this :-5 Thanks for listening :-4

Do you have a local newspaper? They may be interested in "informing the public" of this injustice to a local citizen.

Hello AFTRA :-6 We do not have a local newspaper here. We do, however, have a local news station but I am afraid if I start a big issue of of this, the town will no longer plow the road (in Winter) or they will "get back at us" some other way. This is not a big town where I live and everyone seems to be related to each other some how. Since we are from NJ, we are considered "outsiders" here. I guess, my only recourse now will be to hire an attorney and let the "chips" fall where they fall. :-3

It always makes me cringe to hear of an innocent victim having to pay for someone else's guilt. :-5 So sorry you were put in this situation, TM.

Thank you and I appreciate your concern :-4 My dog has just come out of a $2,500 surgery which I am so grateful I could afford to help him. I guess I was venting not only because of what the town did but if I needed to call the vet and my cell phone was down it would have just made matters worse. My hubby right now is away for business and I think once he comes home, he can deal with it better than I can right now. I think my problem is trivial to what others like yourself are going through right now and I will just go to my "money tree" in the back yard and pick some more off :wah: Thank you again :-6
