Choice of funeral song

I don't mean to be morbid but has anyone here thought about what song or music they would like played at their funeral. I was talking about this earlier today and decided I would like James Blunt's song Goodbye my Lover. It's a beautiful song and the words are perfect for the way I feel.:-6

OOps I forgot to add my reasons ahahah doh! Sarah's song for 2 reasons, it is powerful and I want to be remembered mostly by my kids, and secondly because it was played at my very very best friends funeral who died at 32

Coldplay song because that is what I wish my kids would think of me, that I did everything I could for them.

In the military, retirement is a big deal, especially in the Air Force. I always advocated to my students to let their subordinates plan & execute the retirement ceremony. Like it or not, you will get what you deserve.



I kinda feel the same for a funeral. Hopefully, it will come too suddenly for me to make a goodbye video, so I'd like to leave it to those who will say goodbye to decide the forum & music.

If you lose an elderly loved one have "Seranaded By Angels" by Kirk Talley sang.

It is the most beautiful song ever for a funeral. We lost my M_I_L in May and I asked that be sang and have had lots of positive comments on it. Some have even called and asked where I got the song so they could use it sometime.

All my songs are burned on a CD already--The poor people at my funeral have to sit and listen...and listen...and listen HA HA-- I have everything from "Theres Holes in Floor of Heaven" To "The Dance"- "Rememebr ME", to "Mothers Child" - My sister has a hold of it...There are even some jokes in the "story of my life" my sister has to read....No I am not morbid :-4 - Just prepared!!

I think I mentioned before I have a brother who is HIV+. He has been since about 1984. It has been a up and down battle but mostly up the last few years.



I thought a few years ago he was not going to make it and I wanted a friend of mine to sing this song at the gravesite....

It always choked me up.

hum I'e done this before. What did I pick?

I know one was a mog way song about a funeral procession. It is kind of an upbeat song.

Right now I would lean towards. Deep Purple's Waisted Sunsets with the admonation that the only waisted sunset is the one you don't enjoy and tell everyone that today is a day the Lord has made and to be thankfull and rejoice in it.

Supplying your own 'custom' Funeral CD....what a brilliant idea. I'm definitely going to have a go.

I don't want people to wear black and be all solemn and sad at my funeral. Just wave me goodbye, remember the fun things and get on with their lives. No memorials just a resting place for my ashes in the countryside...perfect.

I've gone a little further than most. I've made many memorial videos for families over the years (I have a TV studio in my home)

So I've put together a video of myself, with pictures from my childhood, and younger life, combined with video clips of myself teaching and playing with my family.

I'm pretty good at it these days if I do say do myself. I left instructions for it to be played at my funeral.

Just creamate me and scatter me any where you want. I'm not a big fan of being buried.. I like the Indians methods above ground creamation no frills and let your ashes scatter naturally.

We make to much of death with the ceromonies. Life should be the ceromony, we should be there for people in life, not expect them to show up after our death.. Just never has made a damn bit of sense to me, but thats my opinion..

This really got me thinking. It's not necessarily about your favourite song is it?.

It needs relevance to the event I suppose - maybe even with some departing message. Or you could take the irreverant option. Either way , capture the personality.

These songs, in my experience, tend to become synonymous with the funeral service from that point on.

Just thought of a few tunes, and became slightly moved at the idea of my kids being upset hearing them. I hadn't ever considered that before.

I guess I'll just let them choose something relevant to them.

All I know is that it will be something by Springsteen

I will not be having a funeral and have requested in my will that who ever scatters my ashes whistle or hum "Blowin In the Wind"
