Mom has broke her moms heart!!

Post by mominiowa »

Today - I broke my mothers heart--I can not fix it...nor will I try...:( My children have attened the Catholic school here since we moved...My son had to go to the public school this fall for extra help in the classroom...As I was driving to the building for sign up - my older daughters asked me 1 more time - if they could PLEASE switch...I had just gotten the tuition paper and it was going to be another 1125$ increase this year for the private..SOOOOOOO I looked at the girls and said- "Are you serious about this..new friends, new bus, new school...everything...they said YES YES YES!!! PLEASE!! - So I called their dad, their step-dad..and got their input- and signed them up...They are all going now....I then called my mom...Mrs. CATHOLIC herself.....and I told her what I had done..the reasons for it- Including barely being able to survive with already paying 340$ a month for school....and she.........HUNG UP ON ME.......I can't fix it- I can't even bring myself to call her back.. I am being childish but isn't she?? Can't she see that I just can't afford all this stupid medicine and doctors bills?? OHHHHHHHHHH I had to vent!! Thanks for listening.......:-5 .

I'm sure she'll get over it, at the end of the day you are not being childish but practical and more importantly doing what your children want! She was the one being childish by hanging up and not discussing it in full!!

Oh mom what a shame your mother can't see it from your side. You did what you had to do Mom, and it isn't easy when parents don't approve and what you "HAVE" to do.

You're a great mother mom and you are doing what you think is right for your kids, isn't that part of being a good mom.....I'm sure your own mother will think about it and get back in touch. :-4

My Mom is queen of the martyrs. Hang tough to your guns Mom - you are responsible for your children. You talked it over with their fathers and that is as it should be.

These are YOUR kids, not hers. Period, end of sentence, next paragraph.

Everyone needs their mom, mom, but we need them to be supportive, to back us in our decisions, and to believe they did their best with US, in which case we are capable of making decisions like this all by ourselves. To use a religious choice as a weapon is absolutely inexcuseable. To lay a guilt trip on an adult child is unpardonable.

I'd ask her if she was, perhaps, willing to pay the tuition for the kids to go to a school SHE approves of, even though doing so would mean your kids weren't as happy. I wonder what her reply to that would be.

Stay tough. You've made your decision and should not feel the need to justify it to anyone, INCLUDING your mother.

Mom, it's always hard to go against a parent's wishes, even (especially) when they are WRONG! :wah: By hanging up on you she knew it would put a "guilt trip" on you, but stay tough. Stay with your's & your Family's wishes, it's your's & "their" lives, not hers! :yh_ttth

Your Mom will eventually come around, have no fear! :yh_nailbi

It's your decision, your responsibility, your consequences ... it's all you baby!:-6

Since you said yourself that you were being childish (which I don't necessarily agree with), I'm curious - how did you tell her? I mean tone of voice, inflection, etc. Was it "Neh neh, I'm doing what you don't want and you can't do anything about it!" or some similar button-pushing thing? I mean, why did you call her? Just to give you an idea of my perspective, I come from a 'no news is good news' family. It's a bit foreign to me to announce decisions, though I understand I'm in the minority.

Well - let me tell you...I wear "12" year old pants in my family..I am the baby of 12 - and even at 33 oops I mean 21 HA HA - I will always be 12....She tells me what to do , when to do it and even why I shouldn't do things...BUT I love my momma with all my heart- she helped me through every things with my divorce and when I am not well enough to take care of the kids she makes sure things get done...She calls me everyday when I am in the hospital or comes to see me when I am at the University...She has also been my rock......Anyway - the reason she knew was becuase she had talked to Father Jim and he told her I had called and told the Parish they would no longer be coming...and he wanted to know if there was something he could do so the kids would stay.....Blah Blah Blah- so she took it as I embarrased her and that I was to tell her FIRST....and never would I want to hurt my mom...anyway- there is my story and its Wednesday night and she never even came into my work tonight to get chicken..and she always does.....but thats not the half---my own sister freaked on me today! I am now currently on the BLACK SHEEP list of the family:cool: ...LOL **(but my kids are HAPPY):-4

That's the way I took it after reading your "12-year-old" post. You're family sounds way too strong, or dysfunctional ;), to let something this minor to do permanent damage.
