Web Browser Suggestions Please?

Post by RedGlitter »

I'm in need of browser recommendations.

I currently have IE and Firefox. I use Firefox 99% of the time. I LOVE my Firefox. But...I keep getting error code 203 whenever I attempt to install their add-ons and now also when I try to install Yahoo Toolbar or StumbleUpon. A lot of people are having problems installing the Firefox add-ons, getting the same code I do or having other gripes. I was willing to give up a few things to try the faster FF Beta 3 version. When the add-on prob appeared I uninstalled 3 and went back to 2. Yet nothing will install just the same.

How about Opera? Is it any good? Will I have any conflict problem if I have Opera and IE on my machine?

What other Windows browsers are out there and what would you recommend? I don't want anything that might cause big problems, it has to be tried and true.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium and I'm on DSL if that helps. Thank you.

You can always ditch and walk away from any software which refuses to cooperate with the current state of your computer. Alternatively you can try changing the current state of your computer to something more closely resembling what the software suppliers anticipate running on.

If you do want to use Firefox 3 you might try completely uninstalling Firefox, re-installing Firefox 3 and bookmarking http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_ins ... error_-203 - it sounds very dead as it stands.

I'd happily use IE as my sole browser. I'd happily use Firefox 3 as my sole browser, or Safari. I do use Opera for specific jobs because it's compliant with some CSS code which neither IE nor Firefox will attempt, particularly handling widows and orphans - other than Opera I've not found another browser that can do it. That's this month. Who knows what next month's comparisons will be like. If those jobs didn't need widows and orphans handling I'd not use Opera simply because the others suit me already but it's in the same class of excellence.

I've tried most of the browsers, and I particularly liked Firefox. The only thing I found about Firefox, together with most other browsers is that they can get painfully slow as time goes on, what with adding more and more add-ons, bookmarks and other clutz.

I've found that freshly re-installing applications mostly solves the problem.

One browser that I have been using a lot recently is Avant, which is based on IE, but it really is lightning fast, but not light weight.

Give it a try :-6

I've been using Opera for a year and a half, after it was recommended to me on another forum.

I love it. Beats the pants off crappy old IE. I still have IE, but the only time I use it is in the Arcade. The games don't work very well on Opera. No conflicts between the two. Opera is my default browser, and IE just sits there until those very rare times when I need it.

Everybody loves Firefox, but I think Opera is better.
