Does forced discipline count? Stomach won't take much alcohol, so I don't drink much. Body won't take any more whippings so I don't fight. I'm still pretty weak on other things.:-3

I have alot, some times do not know when to stop doing something. It was hard to learn to not do too much physical exercise for a medical reason. I have to keep it to a level-what I need during the school year is more sleep. Sometimes you can't do anything about that if you're working.

I have given up smoking. 8 years this year

I have given up drinking. 17 months

I have lost 23kgs. 18months

I have not had icecream so far this year :-1

These have all been my new year resolutions.

I think I am pretty well into self discipline or is it because people say to me

"you won't/can't do that".:-5:-5

I have to prove that I can & will
It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice.

this is a subject that makes me look totally wierd in the eyes of my fellow peoples...

as a kid I used to 'endure hardness' on purpose. For instance I would regularly go without a jacket in winter weather. My thought was that it would toughen me up. Now, I was cold, and I did shiver and I did even freeze a bit, what I did not understand at the time was that I was building self discipline. I did lots of other stuff like that... one day I decided to run everywhere I went and for the better part of a year I ran everywhere I went (unless my mother made me walk) I only stopped when my dad asked me to set a regular running schedule. When I was in highschool I wanted to build strength in my upper body, so carried grain sacks around, got to where I could throw them, climb ladders with 2 sacks of feed and I did build strength. To train to mow through folks on the football field I set up hay bails over my head two stacks deep and Id run and hit them over and over till I could break through in one motion. I used to rip folks to shreds on the field too, so it worked big time!

I know, I'm odd... always have been, not gonna change now.

I like to set a difficult task and then find a way to meet the challenge.

As far as habits go, when I want to stop something I do, I just tell myself no Im not doing that anymore and with rare exceptions dont do it again.

I quit smoking. I don't drink so didn't have to stop that. I've started exercising to offset the fact that I love food and have no desire to deny myself a big mac when the mood takes me...:p

I could NOT stop drinking iced tea to save my life and if I don't read, I don't sleep - that simple...:o
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

Folks who'd like to copy my intellectual work should expect to pay me for it.:-6

I think self discipline can take many forms. Some of us have all forms and some a few and some no self discipline in any form. Financial Self Discipline, Physical Self Discipline, Social Self Discipline, Mental Self Discipline come to mind.
