First they take Dog off the menu, but I guess it won't matter as they will all be breathing in the air instead.

Well my Niece has been there since the 26th of July so the team can attempt to get use to the air quality. It is AWFUL and draining she said it is HOT, HUMID and you can't breathe. Their practices are, and 1 friendly game have left them totally drained. But they are doing better than the teams and players who are just now getting there. It really takeS a long time to adjust from the trip and then the air.

Luck for them they play their first 2 game in on of the outer provicences they are actually on a beach in a hotel with 7 other Football (Soccer) team. The air is better there but still BAD.

Boy there are going to be some runners that won't be able to deal with the air quality that's for sure. You can cut it with a knife.

Inevitably this is the result of breathing Chinese air.

and need I mention? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_State_shootings

Clearly an antagonistic statement in order to incite unrest in an otherwise peaceful garden. Totally off topic and unrelated I might add.

Id also like to take this time to declare javelin throwing not a valid competition.

25-30 years ago the average hematocrit of an olympic level athlete was 18, normal is 15-16... today the average hemtocrit of an olympic level athlete is 19-20 and a large group of them map to 21-22... still the norm for the everyday population is 15-16...

Hematocrit measures the bloods ability to carry oxygen...

To be competative one must 'dope' so all these athletes will be fine in the thicker smog filled air, maybe even they will be equaled out to 'normal' levels and we might see actual plain competition for a change.

*sigh* bunch of cheaters...

No.

Some yes but testing is stringent.

Cmon now....

I don't believe most of them dope. It is youth, and they can do those things we no longer can.

Not true and not accurate. My Niece is playing in the games and she has never doped in her life ever. SO don't lump all the athletes together some are just damn good at what they do a cut above the average athlete and that is why they are on Olympic teams.

Cal me idealistic, I don't think most athletes in that top condition would want to ruin their bodies with dope of any kind.

Carla, did you get some Olympic soccer pins yet? I got a TKD and judo one, and my daughter a gymnastics and fencing one. There are very pretty this time, the mascots are so cute.

They still have dog on the menu. It's just disguised as something else, so as to not offend the tourists. In Bejing, it's called "smokey links". In northern China, "chili dogs". Southern China, "Hot dogs".:D
