I think it's funny how the Olympics imposes a rule to limit the age in the soccer teams so as to eliminate socialistic nations from dominating it, when the entire point of the Olympics is about winning events and glory by individual nations...As if the age limit on the soccer event defers from that of the rest of the events in competitive nature. What's next, limiting the age on gymnastics to under 15? :wah:

So, am I to assume that most of the World don't really care about the soccer events in the Olympics due to the age restrictions?

Of course I'm so excited I can't wait for the games to begin. For the US Women's Team they begin on 8-6-08 at 4:45am on MSNBC. USA, USA, USA.

Yes my nieces see below (Rachel Buehler #4) is on the TEAM and I hope she see's the field at some point she is exciting to watch, as all the women are. :D

Hehe...

As you should know, Danny Szetela will be representing the USA MNT soccer team in the Beijing Olympics, a descendant of Polish heritage...

Daniel (Danny) Szetela (born June 17, 1987 in Passaic, New Jersey), is an American soccer player of Polish descent who currently plays for Brescia Calcio.

Szetela made his debut for the USA on October 17, 2007 as a late-match substitute against Switzerland, and set up Michael Bradley's game-winning goal. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the national team, and provided their first win over Switzerland in seven matches. For a while, Szetela, who has a Polish passport and speaks Polish, was hesitating, as his parents wanted him to play for Poland. However, after former coach of Polish national team, Pawel Janas, stated publicly that "in Poland we have 200 players like Szetela" [1], Danny changed his mind. In July, 2008 Szetela was named to the U.S. team that will compete in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

I am only a yellow belt, testing for orange next month. :D

I am the oldest student, but very persistent. And I have started sparring too. My mother would faint......:wah:

I got my Olympic pins already, a TKD and judo one with the mascots, my daughter got a fencing one and gymnastics. In the land of Phelps, I went for martial arts. (I got swimming the last Olympics, in all the categories-and I wear the pins at school, it is cool)

Soccer-on Telemundo, love those announcers!

Basketball-of course!

I watch almost everything, but probably not the wrestling and shooting as much.

The only time I watch TV as much as possible, I love the Olympics!

I will watch as many sports as I can. I'm glued to the TV for most of the Olympics as it is the best TV going for 2 weeks. My favorite will be "Football" as they call it, we know it as Soccer. I think the Women will do better than the Men. The Women have played all their opponents and beat them all. This is different its the Olympics, it very very hot there, humid and the toughest teams will win just that simple. The Women will face there toughest games in the qarter, semi, and hopefully bring home the GOLD. USA, USA, USA, LET THE GAMES BEGING.. :D

Thanks for the schedule...

It's common knowledge for the most part to assume that the women will achieve higher prestige than the men, but I think this years' US mens national team will shock alot of people...They've already beaten Brazil and dominated Poland leading to their winning Group D in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup...

NOT good for the US in the first game Norway beat them 2-0 in the first 4 minutes they scored 2 goals bam, bam. My niece didn't get to play but hopefully after they re-group things might change. She is a sub for Rapone and Marhkraf who are co-captains unless they get hurt she my not see play. BUMMER.

In reality the US has to step it up to come in second in the bracket or their hopes are going to be dashed. As I see it some of our players are to old and need to be replaced by young fast and quick players and the sooner the better. Norway ran the ball pretty easy on the US they are young, quick and fast. Without Wambach up front with her power and height we are not that strong with forwards. Our midfield is weak.

I will pray they do better on Saturday against Japan I think that is who they play next. :(

I had to stream the game on the Internet as unless you have MSNBC HD your not going to see the game on TV until the quarte finals.

They post on the US womens's 2008 Olympic team blog the meaning of the number 8 in China. here it is: In Chinese culture, certain numbers are believed to be lucky (or unlucky) based on how the word sounds when spoken as compared to other words (good or bad) that sound similar. Of course, the number 8 is one of the most revered and it's no coincidence that the 2008 Olympics will begin on 8-8-08 at 8 p.m. Beijing time. The word for eight in Chinese (Pinyin: bā) sounds similar to the word which means "prosper" or "wealth" (Pinyin: fā). Why do we bring this up? The floor on which the USA is based at the team hotel? 8.

Hopefully she will see some playing time this Olympics, none the less it is a dream come true for her as this is her first Olympics. :-6 They didn't have a good start lost to Norway 2-0 in the first 4 minutes of the game. Of course we hope they win the next to in a big way to make it to the quarter finals. USA USA USA

The American side will close out group play against New Zealand at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12 not sure what time that is on the East coast but it most likely 7:45am EST and Dark O' clock on the west coast. After the third game the top 2 teams in each group ( there are 5 groups) advance on to the quarter finals.

The US Womens's Soccer Team won their game this morning at 2am PST. They beat Japan 1-0 and my Niece saw her first CAP in an Olympic game. She has now be baptized and has seen play. I haven't talked to her yet today, but I can tell you she is probably on cloud 9. She is a defender and unless Mitts, Markraf, Rapone, or Cox go down or get tired she won't get it. Well Cox got tired this morning and she went in at Left back, not her normal position but she can play any position if they let her. :D

I'm so glad to hear that...One thing about the Olympics is that many countries on the other side of the globe find it difficult to follow the events in alot of cases...

I am so glad she got to play...Just think,..if they keep progressing Rachel has even that much more of a chance of seeing playing time...

The result against Norway shocked me but like with any sports any team can win at any given time...

I sincerely hope they do well...
