About 2 years ago I was clearing out my garage and found an old syle cut-throat razor still in it's box dated 1942. I did not throw it away as I thought I might put it on ebay, the handle looks like scrimshaw, the blade is about 4 inches long and believe me it's still razor sharp. i threw it into an old kit bag I had. This week I had to travel to Grenoble in France, I was only going for one night so I took the smallest bag I had, one that I had not used for a couple of years.
Well I went to Grenoble, flew out of Birmingham on British Airways and returned from Lyon France next day, and guess what when I was unpacking friday night i found the razor, i had made the outward and return journey with a cut throat razor in my cabin baggage?????
So I am glad that with the new terrorist threats rising that we are really on the ball as far as airport security goes.:-5

Don't let that post get to the authorities! They will give you a medal for honesty and pin it to your prison jumper.

"Airport security"....isn't that kind of like "jumbo shrimp" or "girlie-man" or some such other oxymoron?

I'll put my reply in a new thread both to push the bad ones out and because it's a bit off-topic.

Glad we don't have to fly out of "Brimingham" & or Lyon Airports here in USA.
The Airport security is far from perfect here in USA Airports, but it certainly has improved somewhat since 911. I feel pretty confident that the Security screeners here would have picked up a 4" blade of any sort in the xray machines. Two months ago my carry on bag went through the Airport screeners xray machine in CT, & it was stopped, re-xrayed again & then it actually was pulled off the conveyer belt. And it was opened & thoroughly "hand" searched by the screener. (Who had on new rubber gloves) He finally found my 2" long Silver Money clip, (with rounded edges, & no sharp points) that I had thrown in there so not to have "any metal" on me. They then "showed me" on their xray machine, how the clip got elongated to look like about a 5" long blade. I could see their concern!
After examining the clip they finally passed it through. It was extra effort on us all, but again I felt like they were doing their job more effeciently, & felt more secure!
Oh yeah, on the way back, I took the clip out of my pants pocket & put it in the personal trays they give you that go through the xray machine, NO PROBLEM!!!

Continuation: Friday we took our visiting Daughter & Grandson to the Airport here in CT, to go back to FL. It was like a Zoo, people everywhere. Even thought it was extremely crowded, the Baggage screening security personnel thoroughly inspected all bags. The walk though people screener, went off when our Daughter carrying our Grandson went through it. She went through it again no problem, our Grandson waited on the side. Then he went through it by himself & off the buzzer went.
Upon checking closer, he had on a tiny BELT that had a (harmless) metal buckle. With that removed he went through with no problem. They even thoroughly screened a "2" year old. So it seems they are taking security much more seriously then prior 911.

Think what would have happened if they confiscated the razor going out, and you came back with a suspicious-looking beard?

It's a good thing you didn't forget you had something dangerous like fingernail clippers in you cabin baggage.

grabs a soapbox, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
on return from france to scotland i was wearing my favourite boots, they're six inch heels & the heels are metal, i was asked to take them off to pass through security which is understandable & i had no objection to doing so
at the other side i retrieved my boots & asked security for a seat to put them back on, anyone that wears knee length boots with that size of heel understands that to put them back on is impossible without some degree of wiggling around
the guards all looked at each other smiled & said no, had i been travelling with a scotsman there would have been a riot, i smiled back said **** you, threw the boots over my shoulder & walked barefoot to departures
i hate airports

I did put on another forum Arnold that the one change I will make to my travel arrangements is the tunnel, the security is crap and if you get stuck in the middle you are 10 miles from either end.

I have a little "John Wayne" can opener on my keychain that came out of C-rations during WWII, and they confiscated that. It doesn't even have any sharp parts! What were they afraid of, I'd "Open" someone to death?

Of course for the passengers in the front seat it would have to be the pilots' bloody stump!

Jives, this wasn't something from your Dad? By "confiscate" do you mean
you completely lost it? Wouldn't they let you mail it home or anything
like that?
