Saudi Arabia bans sale of dogs, cats in capital

Post by spot »

By heck, I wish Bristol City Council would pass the identical law here, I'm tired of not being able to let toddlers wander on the Downs just because it's the pissoir for all leashed pets within walking distance. Keep the wretched animals behind closed doors, that's what I say.

Note to the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice - a toddler's a significantly more effective babe magnet than either a dog or a cat. You need to ban men from walking those too.

And Helium balloons:The other day someone gave me a helium balloon shaped like a panda, and I had to take it across London. If you want people to talk to you, take a panda! I simply couldn't believe how many people (guys, girls, groups, couples, individuals, young, old) stopped to talk to me, to ask the panda's name, to ask if he was dangerous, what he ate... In a city where usually no one speaks to anyone, an anthropomorphic balloon is an instant bond with - apparently - everyone!

They're rules are horrid and strict there. My brother-in-law and wife took a fabulous job offer in Qatar, Alfganastan for 2 years.

-he is forbidden to look at women

-she must wear facial clothing, that to me is wrong, why don't they respect our country by not wearing them, bloody hell, looks like hallowe'en here!

-if caught for speeding or drunk driving, that person is immediately sent to another country.

Their troops are just nasty there!

and this ban on pets? shame on you, jealously is a sickness!

Which country are they in where they have those restrictions?

I'm sure the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice will try to have me sanctioned for that comment.

That's why I asked. "No page with that title exists" for Alfganastan. Qatar is a small (4,400 square mile) country on the Persian Gulf. Is that the place?

The University of Qatar is where my sister in law works in HR.

Not sure how many people are there, they all live in a huge compound,(The people that come from across the world to work there) luxury city its called for them, everyone there also have their own nannys, quite the rich place this is!

but the restrictions we just cannot believe and the ways things are done, to many to list. They will be there 4 years, they love it, except for the intense heat of 40C everyday!

and yes that is where its located........it is not in Afganastan.

I think you'll find that within the Foreign Compound the restrictions you're discussing don't exist. It's only outside the compound, mixing with the local citizens on their own streets and in their own offices, that the rule of "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" comes into the foreground.

If "Afganastan" is a reference to Afghanistan, Qatar's 900 miles from the Afghan border at Herat and 1300 miles from the capital, the countries are a long way from each other, it's like saying England Russia.

One of the problems with working as an expatriate in Qatar is that there's no equivalent there of declaring bankruptcy. If your business fails you might find yourself stuck there with no permission to leave the country until all your debts to local residents and businesses are cleared.
