Does Anyone Care About You When You Get Old?
Our friend and neighbor was having problems and went to the ER, they said it was her heart, and she needed to see a heart specialist!
i would have thought they would have kept her in the hospital and called in a doctor, instead they sent her home with orders to do absolutely nothing, and to call and make an appointment with a heart doctor!
when they tried to call and make an appointment, they got the run around, first they said they had to get her records, then they said they were trying to work her in!
what baffles me is i would think something dealing with your heart would be an emergency!
anyway its been about 2 weeks and she still hasn't seen a doctor, and yesterday they carried her back to the ER, she has now had a stroke! at least they kept her in the hospital this time!
now what i haven't told you so far is that she is 92 years old!
my mom is having a fit, saying that they aren't doing anything for her because of her age!
what do you guys think, is how we're treated in many situations influenced by our age?

Yes. Quite often. Elderly people seem to get the shaft quite a bit. They may not be mentally capable of fighting for themselves or even understanding medical orders or maybe they are but the med staff thinks they can pull a fast one. Is there no one to protect this woman? If she had had someone to rattle the medical staff's cage and get her seen and tended to in time, maybe she wouldn't have had a stroke. It's infuriating.

yes her son and daughter-in-law live next door, they were the ones trying to get her a doctors appointment. but i think they should have done more than they did, i'm like you if she had been seen earlier i don't think she would have had the stroke!
but i've noticed it with my mother and shes only 75, medical staff and people in other situations too, will talk to me instead of her like shes not capable of thinking for herself! i even had a waitress once to ask me what she wanted to order!

My grandma goes to the hospital frequently, she is very sound of mind but her body is wearing out, she's 90. My mom makes sure she gets all the info that grandma gets and will drive the people crazy if stuff is not taken care of properly. She hounds them until she gets what she wants. I just hope I can be there for my mom the way she has been there with her mom.

yeah this woman is of very sound mind too, but i guess people don't assume thats possible at 92!
the problem is she's very stubborn and will not follow doctors orders so this whole time shes supposed to have been doing nothing, shes been doing all kinds of stuff!

they don't if this is anything to go by georgia!
London - A British pensioner found dead in his bed is believed to have lain there undiscovered for two years, police said on Wednesday.
The body of Brian Dean, 70, was found at a terraced house in Accrington, in the north-eastern county of Lancashire, by police officers when they broke the door down.
A pile of unopened mail dating back two years was found behind the door. Neighbours said Dean was rarely seen and was a private person.
Alarms were not raised with official authorities because bills were still being paid by direct debit from Dean's bank account.
"We believe Mr Dean may have been in the house for over two years because mail dated back to June 2006 was stacked up behind his door.
"We know Mr Dean was a very private man and it is very sad that he had not been missed by anybody for such a long time," said police inspector Jill Johnston. - Sapa-dpa

Sounds like my grandma, that's why she keeps landing herself in the hospital.

yeah this woman does what she wants when she wants and listens to nobody!
they've been afraid for years now that they were gonna find her out in the garden or somewhere, having fallen out with a heart attack or something!

Well, I can happily say that wasn't the situation with my Mum, as soon as the 'growth' was discovered she was immediatley admitted to hospital and put on complete bed rest. The doctors, nurses, surgeons etc will not talk to us three children without Mum's permission first. She's certainly not spoken about as if she wouldn't be able to understand. The majority of the people on the heart op ward in plymouth are what we would class as 'elderly' with a handful of 40 year olds, no one gets treated any differently.

An update on our neighbor, she's gonna have to take therapy and learn how to talk again after her stroke, and they say she got something wrong with the top part of her heart?
