Today, I had to hire a Landscaping company (to the tune of $325) to "trim" & shape all the bushes around our house! What I once did with ease, I now had to pass off to the younger guys to do. :wah: This is the same company that I just hired two weeks ago to cut our lawn. (to the tune of $50/cut each week) The lawn has many steep hills & slopes that now hurts my ankles when I used to do it. I'm now paying someone else to hurt their ankles! Fortunately for me, I no longer have to do these chores! (I'm tired of getting old, I want to get young! :p)

It's all backwards. When you have the time to take care of the yard you don't have the ankles or the knees or something else.
Schooling results in matriculation. Education is a process that changes the learner.

I hear ya CARLA, that's what my doc told me about 5 or 6 years ago!
Up untill then, I totally beat up by back doing heavy duty work of 3 to 4 guys when I was younger. I used to dig up 4' to 5' diameter "bolders" just so as to be able to plant a tree in a "desired" location. I could have (should have) moved the location of planting that tree 3 to 4 feet, but noooooo, not me! Back in 1988, I built an entire 12' by 40' pressure treated wood deck, attached to the back of our house. Even right down to mixing cement by hand to pore (6) 2' x 2' x 2' deep footings to support deck columns. In the fall, I used to rake tons of wet leaves onto a 12' sq tarp, & fold it like a bag & throw it over my shoulder & haul it up a steep hill at the back of our house to a landing where I would empty the leaves. Over the years doing that 15 to 20 times till all leaves picked up, took it's toll. I used to replace car starters, radiators, alternators, valve jobs, brake pads & rotors/drums, carburators, rotate tires, even paint the entire house, inside & out! Always doing something. Now I pay others to do that work! :wah:

I'm going to start paying someone else to do all these things now so I will be used to the extra expense.

So many elderly in my area are having to sell their homes since they can no longer afford repairs. It breaks my heart that these people who have lived in their own home (some for over 30 years) are forced to sell. The other thing that really gets me angry is they have to pay school tax on top of their property tax. I would think once a person reaches a certain age bracket, they would not have to pay school taxes. Oh, the cost of getting old is truly a problem.

If these elderly people own their own homes and need more income they are perfect candidates for a "Reverse Mortgage".

Yes, I find it very frustrating, not being able to do now what I once did when I was younger, that is without having any next day consequences! Today, luckily if I so choose, I can still do most of what I used to do, but at a great painfull bodily consequence. So, instead of giving myself a painfull bodily experience, I pay others to do things that will beat up my body! So, it's like a win-win situation, "they" are happy making money, & "I" am pain free!

Not everyone is fortunate enough to own their house "free & clear"!
I know of 2 elderly couples (and they are most likely not alone) that still have a second mortgage (one a very large mortgage) on their houses. Therefore, it's unlikely they could get any real appreciable RM income during these trying mortgage forclosure times!
