Bettheia's - a Cornish experience

This is a thread co-created by Betty and theia, and is a thread in progress. We are going to create a virtual Cornish inn, built around the 1880s. All will be welcome here as guests, be it for Cornish fare, Cornish hospitality or Cornish tales of mystery and magic at dusk around the Cornish range.

Come on into the well stocked bar Bez, lots of Cornish Ales, Beers and Wine to choose from. What can I get you? Some Blackberry Mead?

Theia will be down drekkly, when she's finished her cleaning duties, she's the chamber maid :p:D

It will take some time for us to create the picture but, once we've done it, it should be fun. Betty's already got some really good ideas. I'm off to bed shortly for an early start at work, but keep reading...

Edit...Betty's ideas are rubbish. She snook that post in whilst I wasn't looking. And my early start is NOT chambermaiding...certainly not with the sanitation conditions we've got planned...

Bettheia's Evening Fayre

Homemade Traditional Cornish Pasties.

Chicken in the Rough.

Scampi.

Crab Sandwiches.

Monktails.

Starry Gazy Pie.

Raw Fry.

Marinated Pilchards.

Saffron Cake.

Scones, Clotted Cream and Jam.

Yeast Buns.

Cornish Fairings.

Figgy 'obbin.

Heavy Cake.

Our wonderful Chef, Grecainurn will happily prepare these delicious dishes.

Please just shout out for the 'serving wench' and Theia will come and take your order

A cross between the Northumbrian Small Pipes and the Ullian Pipes by the look of them - never met any in my travels though.

It really depends, Fuzzy, on whether you need to use the "facilities." We don't intend these to be either convenient or modern (or at least that Betty doesn't, I like my home comforts)

Nomad must have brought in his own food. Didn't he see the large sign saying,

"Patrons may consume only food purchased on these premises?" Try and persuade him to try one of your mouth watering pasties, chef (I'm loathe to say that on an American forum, but I have no choice on a Cornish thread)

Good thinking, chef. That should bring them in and maybe whet their appetites for further delicacies from the menu.

Am rather embarrassed to mention this but Betty has planned an excursion for tomorrow (see next post). Lunch is provided. You may have just a little more pasty making to do before the evening's out

Your tour guide: Betty

Please gather in the foyer at 8.30am prompt tomorrow

This excursion will take you on a tour of some local tin mines.

Be sure to grab your lunch on the way out, Pasties, be sure to start at the right end mind, one end is savoury, the other sweet, exactly how the miners took their lunch to work.

Betty's not here, I think chef may be taking a well deserved break, so I'll do the cream tea. Cornish splits are really special instead of scones so maybe you'll try them next time?

This is more like it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Durnit, Theia - I'm sulking that I didn't get a special invite to the opening of this great new establishment. That will cost you and Betty at least one genuine Cornish pasty, please and a pint of best scrumpy!!!

I love Cornwall. Are we located in the narrow winding streets of a cliff village, with wild waves beating on the rocky beach and smugglers and we lure sailors into our clutches? Are we in the misty moors where highwaymen gallop up routinely so we can relieve them of their illgotten gains? Are we in one of those perfect seaside villages with sailing boats and cobblestones??

Ahhhhhhhh... I think I'm packing my bags as I type.

Was last in Cornwall on 1 May two years ago - took my youngest daughter there for her birthday and I have a photo of her in a pub in Polperro with the local green man. As one would. We also danced around the maypole.

Great thread! I love Cornwall, I just wish it wasn't such a long drive. I was there about three weeks ago, did some shopping in Truro, paddled at Newquay and went ghostie-hunting at the Jamaica Inn!
