Have You Ever Been Stranded With Car Trouble on the Highway?
My worst experience was a few years ago, my husband and i were trying to take a truck load of tobacco to market, wouldn't you know, the day we had scheduled to sell there happened to be a hurricane making landfall not to far away, and it was pouring down rain!
there we go with our load of tobacco bopping down the road in that mess!
we are driving along and something doesn't sound right, the truck starts vibrating
and we can't figure out what it is. we stop the truck, get out and look around but see nothing wrong, so off we go again!
now this was kinda like something out of one of those old movies, we're sitting in the truck driving along and suddenly we're watching our own tire rolling past us and away down the road! :wah:
my husband managed to get the truck off the road and we slid to a stop, in of all places in front of a billboard advertisement for a tow truck service that was just down the road!
this was before we got our cell phones so sadly he had to walk about a mile in the pouring rain with no jacket to get to the place, but we got a tow and made it to our sale and everything worked out alright in the end!:-6
and the icing on the cake was, it happened to be my birthday! :wah::wah:

Have You Ever Been Stranded With Car Trouble on the Highway?
I used to work nights and one night I was driving home and heard this weird noise and didnt take to much notice of it and then all of a sudden my car swerves sideways and then clunks on the the road and i looked and there was was my tyre flying down the hill:-5 I was scared cause it was still dark and here i am on the road with a car with 3 tyres. So i called my friend who I had just dropped off and sat in the gutter waiting. Anyhow she just burst out laughing when she arrived:-1 so I ended up ringing hubby.

Have You Ever Been Stranded With Car Trouble on the Highway?
I had an ancient Buick that erupted in an engine fire at a stop sign. I tried to beat it out with my jacket. Caught my jacket on fire. Lost my car. Lost my jacket. Put on quite a show for the onlookers though.

Couple of times due to flat tyres.
Last time I was on my way to Cornwall to inter some ashes and then into Plymouth for the theatre with my daughter. Sat by the side of the road waiting for hubby to come to my rescue after phoning him and listen to him rant about 'people who can't change a wheel shouldn't drive a car', then when he arrived he discovered that the wheel nuts were so tight I wouldn't have stood a chance in getting them off - he ate a large portion of humble pie!!:wah:

Have You Ever Been Stranded With Car Trouble on the Highway?
Florida, early 1980's.
I had an impulse to drive somewhere. Id never seen the Atlantic ocean and it wasnt far. 2 1/2 hrs away.
This was back in the drinking days and I thought nothing of imbibing while driving. I loaded up a cooler with ice cold beer and from Tampa started driving east toward Daytona Beach.
Once I got there I visited a few bars, had a few drinks, took a look at the ocean and realizing I was pretty sloshed thought Id better head back.
About halfway across the state where the red star is I ran out of gas. It must have been about 2am. There wasnt a light in sight. Few cars passed and no way I was going to sit there till the sun came up so I started walking. And walking. And walking. Walked 10 or more miles I suppose before I saw a faint light off in the distance.
So I kept walking. I started hearing noises coming from behind me. Somewhere off in the brush off the side of the road. It sounded like whispering, voices that stopped when I stopped to identify the source but it was pitch black, the dead of night and I couldnt see far into the darkness. When I started walking again the voices would start up again. I stop they stop.
My heart started racing and I started running towards the light which was very slowly getting closer.
By the time I reached what turned out to be an all night gas station I was exhausted.
I used the restroom, bought a gas can and filled it up.
I called a cab to bring me back to my car. The cabbie drove and waited for me to fill my tank with the gas and make sure the car started.
I didnt have my car keys anymore, they werent in my pockets, I looked on the ground, in the car...gone.
I racked my brains and the only conclusion I could draw was that Id removed them from my pocket at the gas station.
So the cab returned to the station with me in the back seat praying they were there.
Which they were.
I got home well after sun up tired still drunk and with an experience that not until much later in my life could I draw on as a point of reference as to what a *****d up mess I was.
I AM AWESOME MAN

I've never been stuck on a highway, but a couple of times I've gotten stuck in mud on a pivot road in the middle of a cornfield.

awwwwww hoppy i'm sorry to hear that!
we had a neighbor who's truck caught on fire in his own front yard, they had to call the fire department! we got scared thinking there was a forest fire, when you live surrounded by 1000 acres of forest, thats something thats stays on your mind a lot!

Being a single mom at a very young age I decided it was necessary for me to have AAA best decision I have ever made. I have had to use it many time and they are there in 10 to 15 minutes max. No women driver should be without AAA worth ever dime you pay for it. Mind you I can change a tire, fix a radiator but why should on a lonely dark road NAH! I just call AAA.
ALOHA!!

Over the years manys times! One very dangerous time, was when I was on the highway just slowing down from 65 to 50mph entering a conjested area. When all of a sudden, we hear a big "BANG", & I look in the rear view mirror & all I see is lots of smoke, and see debris flying all over behind us in the road. The Right Rear tubless tire blew out, actually disintegrating all over the road untill I finally came to a difficult controlled stop! After waiting a few minutes & recomposing myself, I proceeded to change the tire. Half way through changing the tire, a State Trooper stopped behind us, & asked what happened. I told him, & he asked if the tire was a Firestone 500, & I said yes. He then told me he would take my name & number, & add me to a list of hundreds of drivers who had such blow outs. All 4 tires on the car were that brand (came on the car when new), so as not to have another blow out, I bought 4 new Goodyear tires! They were great! Several months later Firestone sent me a pro-rated check for their defective tires. Luckily for me, I was around to cash it!

Driving down the A38 doing 70 MPH with my wife in the passenger seat and my daughter and niece in the back when the kingpin sheers off and the front wheel makes for the sky.
A quarter mile later, having passed through a set of bollards, I managed to stop the car without having a heart attack.
No way should the car have kept straight for so long with one corner digging into the tarmac - and there was no way I was in control of where we were going.

I've been stranded on the M1 with bike trouble...not my bike I hasten to add!
The day I bought my lary pink bike, my mate mike also bought an old Yamaha and we picked it up on the way back from Sunderland where I got mine. Five minutes outside of Leicester, his died on the sliproad.
Considering the numberplate was CRP we should have known it would be crap!:D
