It's not her fault, really.

I know that.

It's all the people who turned her into what she is.

Yeah.........just because one is rich and famous, doesn't make him/her wise and have all the answers to lifes problems.

Seriously, what is she ?

I think she does pretty good work.

She took another routine run of the mill talk show which we needed like a bullet to the brain and through the years made something of it.

She is in the entertainment industry of course but she took it in a positive direction for the most part.

I hope you dont force me to search for examples and facts on her philanthropic deeds, that would be cruel.

Like her or loathe her, she stands by her convictions, admits when she screws up, and has show the heart and determination to overcome great systemic odds to come out at the top of her chosen field.

Doesn't think too clearly politically, though.

That's the source of my angst. Coming from the perspective of someone who doesn't watch telly and who works in an industry that will suddenly sell all our stock on specific items because Oprah says she likes it.

Would she be where she was if she didn't give money or things to people? When you have to buy viewers it doesn't mean as much.

If she wants to help people, she should look right in her backyard. There are people in the US that need help but she seems not to see that. I can't stand her and refuse to watch her show.

I don't watch her. My opinion is based on seeing the insane reaction of consumers every time she endorses something.

In the bigger picture, like I said in the OP, I realise it has less to do with her than the people who make her what she is. I actually think she's been fairly responsible with the power that was invested in her by the public.

I just hate that the public invests that power.

It's the same as why I hate shows like Jeremy Kyle, but then, if people are stupid enough to exploit their ignorance on TV, then there are always people willing to watch the toothless and demented just to get a bit of a laugh.

Personally, I find those type of things really depressing...I hate thinking that there are that many people out there without even the means to figure where their own lives are going wrong. It's just hideous.

I think she is as real as she can be considering

Remember when Phil Donohue wore a skirt on his show and everyone else tried to 'out wacky' the other shows and win the ratings wars...

she won by saying she wouldn't play the game anymore...

I, of course , quit watching here right then and there:rolleyes:, but she won the respect of millions of viewers at that moment.

The main one that comes to mind is when she recommended this guy's book before finding out it wasn't the nonfiction masterpiece it claimed to be. She devoted at least one entire show to broiling the guy about the lie.

Lemme see, she also quit that church Obama claimed too, as I recall.
