Jimbo, 16 years ago I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, they put me on all theses pills that screwed up my stomach and made my face bloat. After about 1 1/2 to 2 yrs after I said the hell with this medicine and haven't taken any since. I still get a few aches and pains at times but nothing like I had when I was diagnosed. I have been asked what I did or do to not be taking meds for it. I really have no answer except that I just decided I wasn't going to medicated to death.

Rheumatoid Arthritis?
My mother has it, there are some excellent meds you can take for it nowdays, Jimbo.
Rheumatoid Arthritis?
I have had ra since i was seven Jimbo. I spent many months off and on in the hospital with it as a child. Since then i have been lucky that it hasnt ever attacked me as bad as back then. I have taken aspirin to control the pain and swelling for years. I am one of the lucky ones..so far i have managed not to have to replace any joints. ra attacks and recedes. Its an immune system response. Take a good multivitamin. gets lots of fluids and take care of your health. None of this will guarantee the ra wont flare but maintaining as healthy a immune system as you can will go a long ways in controlling the progression. If i get a cold or run a fever mine flares mightily. Alot of people arent aware that ra can affect your eyesight. If you should become positive with ra get good eye exams once a year. There are also many good meds on the market now to help controll the swelling and pain associated with ra.
Irrevelent to this thread...are you aware that there is some research that some of the innoculations we got as children triggered RA? Alot of children became posititve with juvenile ra in the late sixties and early seventies in the states.

You sound like me Wisey..i have always refused to go the med route beyond aspirin. Even though you may not feel achy. ra progressively weakens joints. Ra attacks and usually goes into remission after a period of time. Sometimes i am not even aware the ra is flareing except i am running a low grade fever.
The point i am trying to make to you Jimbo is ra is mostly a nusience you learn to live with most of the time..at least for me it is..i have had it for thirty eight years.

Rheumatoid Arthritis?
Answer Can ra affect your eyes?
Yes. Although rheumatoid arthritis is primarily a bone and joint disease, it occasionally affects other parts of the body, such as the eyes. Eye conditions associated with rheumatoid arthritis include:
Dry eyes
Inflammation of the inner part of the eye (uveitis)
Inflammation of the episclera (episcleritis), the surface membrane covering the white part (sclera) of the eye
Inflammation of sclera (scleritis)
Treatment of dry eyes may include artificial tears. Treatment of uveitis, episcleritis and scleritis may include corticosteroid eye drops and anti-inflammatory medications.
It is important to note that dry eyes can also be a symptom of Sjogren's syndrome, an autoimmune disorder that is often associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
If you have rheumatoid arthritis and experience dry eyes, eye pain or redness, blurred vision or light sensitivity, see an ophthalmologist for an evaluation. You should also consult your rheumatologist.

Hey Jimbutt, I have OA which isn't as bad because it doesn't spread like RA. I've seen some commercials about a new med for RA and it's supposed to stop the progression of it. It doesn't make sense if all the joint pain came on at once...RA doesn't normally spread so quickly. I've done a lot of research on arthritis once I was diagnosed with it.* My grandma has RA and her fingers go in all directions. Wait for a sure diagnosis before doing too much research or you'll get yourself all worked up. Like I said, this doesn't sound like the normal progression of RA, so it could very well be something else. And I could always be wrong.
* Hope all goes well and it's something else that is easy to fix. I'll say some :yh_pray for you.

I just got here, Jimbo. I'm thinking about both you and Suzy as I just read your other post about her. Love means good times and not-so-good times. As long as you are there for each other...that's all the matters. Just listen to what your doctor tells you after the blood test results come in and go from there.
Since my hubby had his heart attack, he's had to take 5 different meds. He rarely took an aspirin before. No big deal..........we just had to adjust our routine. I help make sure he takes these meds when he is supposed to. We joke about it, but he does take those meds. I want him around as long as possible.

Get the tests and then get back to me if you have it. I wish it were as simple as mind over matter. Stress definately increases flare ups. Like stress is possible to avoid. :wah: I wonder a lot lately about how much longer I will be able to walk and work. RA SUCKS.
