It's a dead visa if the passport's expired, you'll need to get it renewed for the new one.

Sorry Jim, It's a gonner. Depending on why your here the visas can last for 3 months to years.

You do have a right to a green card here is a link to the US Passport site. I cover Visa and Passport rules. All our ruled changed this year.

Upon your getting a green card for the US I do believe you'll be subjected to a test...

I don't believe it's overly difficult but it is something you'll want to go over...I don't think you'll have difficulty in the least rather it always improves your chances of getting accepted...
