How long is he planning to be gone sweetie and what can we do to annoy him when he gets back?:sneaky::wah:
Let's start plotting our strategy, shall we?
Does he have a favorite room we can rearrange?:D

Ya know, every time my daughter is gone for even a weekend, my dog sleeps in her doorway at night and in the daytime she sits in the livingroom staring at the door.. waiting for it to open and bring back that which we have stolen away from her...:p

You know how long it's going to be that way then. That makes it different - lots of people have an unending prospect of it staying that way for them.
There's some things you can only do when you're alone and you've got some peace and quiet. Getting as much study out of the way and dealt with is one of them. You could crash through as much of your coursework as you can stand, that'll eat up a fair few hours.
Horses are company, you could sit in the paddock and play your harmonica to the animals. The misery of being on your own ought to improve your style. If you've never learned it's a perfect opportunity, you'll not drive everyone else up the wall while you're sounding dreadful. Don't try the banjo, banjos are plain antisocial, it's not a skill that will endear you to anyone even if you get good at it. Harmonicas on the other hand are a part of life.
Or you could paint all the outhouses red to surprise folks when they get back.

Besides that I value my life very highly. :wah: He can be gone for up to 2 years, but he thinks he can come home after 3 months for a few weeks. He may be done then or he may be sent back out.
He's making this fairly simple for us then... we buy some 'glow in the dark' neon colored paints(3 or 4 colors should do us..) , create a maze on his floor... then color code the equipment to correspond to the color of the line on the floor leading up to it...
maybe you should post a picture of his current floorplan in there so that we can better visualize things, eh?:)

Okay... this is another possibility..
I don't know Spot... scares me when we start having similar thoughts, how about you?:D

Mann, I wish there was something I could do to help you out....flopstock is TOO funny!
Hopefully it will get better and things won't be so lonely for you after a while....I was hoping Missy would be better by now...poor baby!
Does the internet help at all? or you really like people interaction.....its funny how we can't wait for quiet and calm and then after about a day, we want our 'noise-makers' back!
I do that all the time, kids drive me batty and I want "me time" and then after they are gone for 2 days or so, I'm ready for them to come home!
:-6Hoss;964697 wrote: Hey lets use black light paint, and change out his fluorescent light tubes so the maze is invisible till he flicks the lights on! :wah:
Okay, we'll use that inside... we'll put the 'glow in the dark' on those outside buildings.... he'll get home... they'll be sitting there quietly absorbing the sunlight all day... dad takes a little nap and wakes up... steps outside to enjoy the night air and KAPOW!:-6:-6:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl

If you dare to touch your dad's workshop, learn to build some small pieces of furniture.
Volunteer one night a week at the local hospital, nursing home, or other organization that interests you.
Oh SURE!!!
That's another way to go.... I suppose....

Hey Hoss, you know when you are feeling alone you've always got us here at the Garden:yh_hugs.......didn't anyone ever tell you that you will never be able to get rid of us now.
Hoss;964684 wrote: I did not realize when my dad asked me if I wanted to stay on the ranch alone and run things while he was gone I was going to feel this alone. But I'm having a tough time. My dad’s dog mopes around; she misses him as much as I do. I have plenty to do, I keep busy and I study, but, when my eyes go buggy from reading and my chores and the jobs he gave me are all done and it gets quiet, I miss everybody. I sort of thought that I'd enjoy the calm for a change? I think I did for the first day, but I'm down.
ahhhhhh being on your own can be.........try and play with the dog, as he misses your dad, he needs tons of TLC.
It's nice to see you in the FG and posting away. You know that we love your Dad and miss him. You have to be a good person with a Dad like Jester. Please give him all of our best when you talk with him...:yh_hugs
Being alone is good at times...it helps you grow and learn more about yourself. You have a lot of wonderful advice here, especially from Floppy:wah::yh_rotfl.....you should get started with all of her projects right away:wah:
Take care Hoss and know that someone is usually here 24/7 that you can chat with......
Hoss I hate it when NOMAD gets philosophical, but he nailed it this time. Hey I could use some quite time up for guests? I clean and can do chores as well. :-4

It means that sometimes when were in the throes of turmoil or angst we are also actually involved at that very moment in a valuable lesson or learning experience.
Often when Im hurting I project myself out of my immediate sense of despair to see what gift lies within the event.
By doing this it encapsulates my suffering and makes it bearable sometimes even bringing joy in the knowledge that if I handle the situation correctly Im evolving as a human being. All of the moments of our lives allow us the opportunity to grow and stretch ourselves.
For me thats the single most important aspect of my life, to slowly evolve into what I wish to be.
So since all I know is the perspective Ive formed for my own life I offer it occassionally in the hopes that someone else might understand it and benefit from it.

That's the counterfeit Nomad...
It's hardest when you're first alone, but it gets better, Hoss. I like to keep myself active learning something new or just doing something productive... I liked the ideas mentioned above such as building furniture or painting the pump houses red... choose a project that would really please your Dad when he returns.

Well excuse the heck out of me to all you philosophers out there in fg land, but when i got up to get a drink and saw the OP my initial thought was to distract the kid and just let him know he is never alone with us here...
In retrospect... sure.. much better idea to make this a growing experience for him...
:rolleyes::D

He's like one of my own babe(because of whose he is:-4)... and to be honest with you, although I had to get up in five hours, I didn't go back to bed until I was sure WWendy was around in case he needed continued company..
There is just something about kids uncomfortable in the night that gets to moms from the time they are born..no matter how grown up they may become
I'm a mom first... slut second... don't get confused about that again, ya hear?:sneaky::wah:

But the dogs feeling better and for me that makes it less sad around here. I knew it could be long, but I was hoping it wouldn't be. My mom and brother and sister went back home to her families land until he comes back. I chose to stay to attend college and keep with my fire program.
oh god, you made me laugh! poor hens eh!
so glad you are going to attend college, you will meet alot of friends there and that will also help the lonliness, are you going to become a firefighter?
