The Zoo...That God Foresaken Place !

Post by Nomad »

After being forced to park 2 1/2 miles from the entrance because some prick thought it was ok to take up 2 spaces then walking another 17 miles to the 1st exhibit which was birds and butterflies :rolleyes: my journey began.

I did find out my wife has a deep fear of butterflies or anything winged for that matter which I found extremely amusing.

One of the park attendants outstretched her hand to what I assumed was an offering of a leaf, presumably to feed the butterflies. I was scolded and told not to touch the caterpillars under the leaf. I now understand butterflies emerge from cocoons once housed by caterpillars. Lets get out of here !

The next leg was a 34 mile jaunt to the tapir exhibit. Fine whatever, seen one Tapir seen them all.

Moving on....the dolphins werent on display because of an unexpected pregnancy. Apparently Flipper doesnt appreciate that my patronage is what keeps him in mackerel.

Sloths, Asian squirrels, Pronghorns blah blah blah.

19 miles to the Tiger Lair.

Sleeping.

I want my money back !

8.7 miles to the Wildebeast prairie.

6.2 miles to the camels.

2.8 miles to the Russian Grizzly deal. I gotta admit it was fun watching a 500 lb brown bear fishing. You could see him underwater and he didnt have the skills yet to catch a fish so he was having a fit.

Ice cream cone fell on the sidewalk and the pretzel was stale.

16.5 miles back to the car.

Did I mention it was 90 deg. ?

Our Toronto Zoo is enormous also, which we are happy for, the animals all have huge enclosures, it takes always a couple of visits to walk thru it.

But we also go when the zoo first opens in the mornings, no crowds, we have never gone on a summer day when kids are out of school, way to many people and even further to walk to the entrance.

and always in spring, when the weather is cool enough for a jacket.............and the animals are more livlier when its cold.
Life is just to short for drama.

No offense pal, but at the end of a miserable day putting up with whatever crap they felt like handing you.... you got to leave, didn't you? DIDN'T YOU??

The luckiest creatures there were able to pick someones cone leavings off the ground or stale pretzel crumbs from a garbage can and reflect on their day of watching some guy pissing' and moaning about his feet all day and acting like 'they' owed 'him' something....

The rest just stood at their enclosures watching the big metal gates clang shut that remind them every day that the miserable two legged idiots in the world get to leave this personal hell of theirs every night, while they are sentenced for life to the same day to day existence.... simply because they didn't fight hard enough to stay free....

Yeah... I'm feelin' sorry for ya...

I was at the Philadelphia Zoo last year with the kids. Lots of walking, picture taking, but the hike is a killer on the feet.

nomad's decription of the day at the zoo cracked me up:wah::wah:

it's like a day at disney world..you know..the little ones are hot tired and oh so having fun...........NOT. while their parents are pushing those strollers through the crowds. waiting hours in line. paying six dollars for a drink. five for a popcycle that melts in three seconds all over the crying little tot. Disney world is definitely not for little children. no matter the hype about it. i always felt sympathy for the kids i saw crying and snotting their little eyes out and the parents looking like they wanted to go find a bar...;)

The zoo here is 210 paces long by 280 paces wide, if your pace is three feet. Getting round it in a day is possible. Some of it's gardens and lawns, there are trees and such. It was laid out 160 years ago and it's only changed gradually. I enjoy wandering around, I've a pass, I drop by most weeks.

ohhhhh so nice to have a pass, I should consider it, going once a year is sooooooooooo expensive, and if you take your time and see everything......it cannot be done in one day.

down at bush gardens you can ride a train all around the zoo..

i had my feet propped up on the back of the seat in front of me.. (the folks in front of me just thought it was wild animal smell..:D)

it was kinda upsetting that my 32oz tea barely made it around the entire park, but munching on the popcorn and roasted nuts made it impossible to NOT slurp it down...

i'm sure you understand how it was...:-6
