Memories Are Made Of This

My late mother so I’m told ¦ for she died while I was quite young ¦ played the piano with exceptional elegance ¦ however I do vaguely remember her giving piano lessons to two of my older sisters ¦

We are quite a close knit family my sisters and I and although we live in different cities we try to get together in one place every few years for a reunion ¦

I remember at one such reunion I asked my oldest sister ¦ herself now quite an accomplished pianist ¦ to tell me as much as she could remember about our mother ¦ little knowing that her long-term memory loss had already begun ¦ it was only years later that she admitted that she could recall very little about Lola ¦

So instead of saying anything she used a very unique and effective way of telling me what she could remember about her ¦ she went and sat down at her piano and started playing a selection of songs that Lola had taught her to play ¦ how she remembered that these were tunes our mother had played I cannot say ¦

But I was immediately taken back to my childhood as I listened ... the now familiar songs giving me instant recall ¦
