Can someone tell me why suddeny I am getting the message that virtual memory is too low? I don't play online games, and haven't changed anything . After the first couple of times I defragged and compacted files but it didn't seem to really help.
I checked and the virtual memory is set just above minimum, and the 'custom' box is tagged. What happens if I reset it to more MB or if I check the 'system adjust' box?
I am using XP.

This error occur with Microsoft Office Appilcation:
CAUSE
This behavior may occur if you try to start any of the programs included in Office on a computer where the paging file value setting is too low.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, increase the size of the paging file. To do so, follow these steps as appropriate for your operating system.

Thanks Carla...now that you mention it, it DOES happen when I bring up an Office file. But I wonder 'why now' , I've been running them on this same system for quite awhile.

Usually because the disk you have configured to hold your paging file is getting too full. When you boot the system readjusts the page file size to have a maximum of x% of the free space (in fact, I thnik it's worse than that, x% of the largest contiguous block of free space).
Check the amount of free space
Do a Disk Cleanup to release some more
Go round deleteing out of date movies / albums / etc to release more free space
Defrag
The re-boot and check if the page file size has increased.
